2011 Bowl Matchups: 5 Showdowns Sure To Be Blowouts

Alex KayDec 20, 2011

There are some awfully lopsided bowl games this season, and fans are going to be disappointed that their team has to participate in them, regardless of which side of the blowout they are on.

Every year it seems that the BCS and selection committees consistently choose poor matchups and leave nearly everyone disappointed because things like tradition and history are given more emphasis than performance in the regular season.

With that said, let’s take a look at some of the biggest mismatches this postseason.

Texas A&M vs. Northwestern – Texas Bowl

The Aggies are ten point favorites and they will not have a problem covering that spread.

They were thought to be national title contenders before falling off the rails against Oklahoma State in late September.

A&M also cut their teeth against numerous Big 12 powerhouses and will have no problem cruising past a weak Wildcats team.

Baylor vs. Washington – Alamo Bowl

You are about to witness a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback do work against a very overrated Huskies team.

Robert Griffin III will destroy this Pac-12 pretender with his pinpoint accuracy and knack for finding his receivers in the end zone.

This one shouldn’t be close, and Baylor will win by at least two touchdowns.

Oklahoma vs. Iowa – Insight Bowl

Iowa would have a chance in this game…if they were playing at home.

They have just one win this season on the road.

Compare that to their four losses, which includes a defeat by the extremely awful Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Expect the Sooners to extract revenge for their loss against the Pokes in this Tempe-based bowl game.

TCU vs. Louisiana Tech – Poinsettia Bowl

On paper, this game is the a blowout waiting to happen.

What’s going to happen on the field? TCU is going to destroy LA Tech.

The Horned Frogs thought they were going to finish in the top 16 of the BCS rankings and automatically qualify for a top-five bowl, but instead were relegated to No. 18 ranking and a second-tier bowl.

They will have their vengeance.

Boise State vs. Arizona State – Las Vegas Bowl

How does the BCS selection committee continue to have the audacity to snub the Broncos?

They finished 11-1 with a No. 7 standing and now get to face a 6-6 Sun Devils team that just fired their head coach.

Is that a sick joke?

These Broncos will stampede over ASU and prove that they should have been in the BCS, not some joke pre-New Year's bowl.
