2011 Bowl Predictions: Projecting Winners for Every BCS Bowl
The five BCS bowls need no introduction. Led by the Allstate BCS National Championship Game, they are the cream of the crop, the top of the top—the best that college football has to offer.
We shouldn't take anything away from the other 30 bowl games on the schedule, but the 60 teams playing in those 30 games would kill for a shot at the BCS.
As for who will win those BCS games, we have that covered.
Rose Bowl Game Presented by VIZIO: Wisconsin vs. Oregon, Jan. 2, 5 p.m. EST (ESPN)
Spread: Oregon -6
The Ducks' two losses this season came against the undefeated LSU Tigers and the two-loss USC Trojans.
Wisconsin was dominant at home all season but lost back-to-back road games against Michigan State and Ohio State to derail its national title hopes.
Both programs are happy to be in the Rose Bowl, though. Their respective conferences expanded, and both teams faced new opponents this season en route to winning their titles.
This game will be high-scoring and will feature two of the nation's most dynamic playmakers: LaMichael James and Montee Ball.
The Badgers' two losses came on ridiculous last-minute touchdown heaves.
When the Ducks play to shut down Ball and the vaunted Wisconsin rushing attack, it will be quarterback Russel Wilson who makes the difference.
Prediction: Wisconsin 38, Oregon 34
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma State vs. Stanford, Jan. 2, 8:30 p.m. EST (ESPN)
Spread: Oklahoma State -3.5
Both teams saw national championship dreams dashed late in the year.
For the second straight season, the Cardinal were upended by the Oregon Ducks, while the Cowboys foolishly blew a road game against Iowa State.
Now they'll square off in what is arguably the second-best bowl game of the year.
Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck shouldn't have too much trouble putting up points, but he will be hard pressed to match the Pokes' output.
The Cardinal have a better defense than what Oklahoma State typically sees, but the Pokes also have some dominant playmakers led by Justin Blackmon.
Much like the Stanford-Oregon games of the past year, we should expect Stanford to keep up for majority of the game. For the Cardinal to pull out the win, they'll have to avoid that one turnover in the second half.
Prediction: Oklahoma State 42, Stanford 38
Allstate Sugar Bowl: Michigan vs. Virginia Tech, Jan. 3, 8:30 p.m. EST (ESPN)
Spread: Michigan -2.5
This is the "Should These Teams Really Be Here?" Bowl.
The Wolverines feature a one-man band on offense but have a stellar defense.
The Hokies continue to play "Beamer Ball" to the best of their ability, and it landed them in this matchup even after falling to Clemson in the ACC title game.
Frank Beamer knows all about the running quarterback, and he'll have a game plan for it.
Whichever quarterback, Denard Robinson or Logan Thomas, doesn't make the key mistake will ultimately decide this game.
Prediction: Virginia Tech 31, Michigan 24
Discover Orange Bowl: Clemson vs. West Virginia, Jan. 4, 8:30 p.m. EST (ESPN)
Spread: Clemson -3.5
And this is known as the "Do These Conferences Legitimately Deserve Automatic Qualifying Berths?" Bowl.
The level of competition in the Big East and ACC is nothing like that of the SEC, Big 12 or even the Big Ten—and the Pac-12 should've had three Top 10 teams this year if USC wasn't on the "(expletive) list."
These two feature exciting offenses that will test both defenses.
West Virginia has been to BCS games before, but this is Dana Holgorsen's first as a head coach.
Same for Dabo Swinney with Clemson.
This game will come down to which quarterback makes the most of the bright lights.
Prediction: Clemson 38, West Virginia 24
Allstate BCS National Championship Game: LSU vs. Alabama, Jan. 9, 8:30 p.m. EST (ESPN)
Spread: LSU -1
Nothing more needs to be said of this game that hasn't already been said.
We saw coach Nick Saban opt for long field goals during the teams' first meeting. If they converted just one of those, we're talking about Alabama as the No. 1 instead and likely the clear-cut favorite.
The Crimson Tide left at least 12 points on the field in that game.
There is a reason the line is only LSU -1.
Both teams feature a number of star players, but Alabama's five potential first-round defensive players will be the deciding factor in this game.
Roll Tide Roll.
Prediction: Alabama 24, LSU 15
