LSU vs. Alabama Rematch: 5 Reasons Tide Will Get Their Revenge

Bradlee RossDec 19, 2011

The Alabama Crimson Tide will face off against the LSU Tigers for the second time on January 9th. A BCS Championship and revenge will on the line for the TIde, who narrowly made it into the championship game.

Unlike their last matchup, this game will be all about the Tide, who will avenge their earlier loss because of their advantages in coaching and experience.

Here are five reasons why the Crimson Tide will win the BCS National Championship.

Trent Richardson Will Move the Ball

1 of 5

There is no doubt that Trent Richardson is the best running back in the country.

The junior has rushed for 1,583 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, no small feat against the defenses of the SEC.

In the previous matchup against LSU, Richardson was only able to get 89 yards off of 23 carries against LSU's talented defensive front. However, he had one of his best receiving games of the season with five catches for 80 yards.

In the month leading up to this matchup, the Alabama coaching staff will be finding creative ways to get the ball in Richardson's hands. He'll be the most talented guy on the field all night, and he'll be running with and catching the ball all night in route to another Tide championship.

Talented Defense Will Do Its Thing

2 of 5

This Alabama defense might be one of the best in the history of college football.

Dre Kirkpatrick, Dont'a Hightower and Mark Barron will all probably be first round draft picks in April's NFL Draft.

This Alabama defensive unit is No. 1 in the country in pass, rush, total and scoring defense. This defense can do everything it needs to at an elite level and will continue that streak in January.

It will be the defense that ultimately defeats the Tigers.

Nick Saban Will Not Let His Team Lose

3 of 5

There is a reason that Nick Saban is as highly revered as he is. The man demands excellence at every position and on every play, and will accept nothing less.

His team fell short of his expectations once already this year. I doubt he'll let them do so again.

He'll use this month to prepare and overprepare his squad, never letting them forget the mistakes they made in that lone loss. Ultimately, Saban will outcoach Les Miles and win the rematch.

The Team Will Have Learned from Mistakes

4 of 5

Four missed field goals.

A goal line interception.

Another interception.

A punt that the Tide let roll back 20 yards.

Do you really think this team will make those mistakes again?

The Tide missed out on potentially scoring 22 points because of their various miscues against the Tigers. The players and coaches for Alabama will have far too much pride to commit the same errors. It was clear they were the better team, they just didn't play like it that night. January 9th will be a completely different night.

LSU Overconfidence

5 of 5

LSU beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa. They will be playing a virtual home game for the national championship. They've been hearing for weeks about how they are so much better than everyone else in the country. Some have even said they will still be the best team even if they lose the national championship game.

That's a lot of confidence. Too much.

Alabama will come in as a hungry team who can't forget the loss that they clearly brought on themselves back in November.

LSU will come in hearing about how great they are and how they are unquestionably the best in the nation.

It will be a classic case of overconfidence.
