January Transfer Window: England XI Who Could Be on the Move
While most of us are enjoying the festive period, football managers and players all around Europe will have their minds set on the impending January transfer window.
Managers will be deciding who will be staying and who will be leaving their squads in the new year and considering the names which they would like to add to their teams.
Players, on the other hand, will be wondering whether the new year will offer them new opportunities with new clubs or whether they will still be leading out the reserves for another six months.
This article is going to take a look at the English stars of the past, present and future whose careers could be given new leases on life when January comes.
1. Joe Lewis (Peterborough)
1 of 12Teams interested: QPR, Ipswich, Cardiff
Having represented England at every youth level, Joe Lewis could be in line for a move to the EPL if QPR are willing to throw him a bone.
Lewis has previously been touted as one of the biggest stars of England's future. Well, that is until a little known player known as Joe Hart arrived on the scene.
Lewis has yet to win his full England debut, but a move to the EPL could change that.
Likelihood of moving to an EPL club: Unlikely - A move to a championship side may be nearer the mark, but who knows? A decent season with Peterborough could see him in the EPL sooner rather than later.
2. Nedum Onuoha (Man City)
2 of 12Teams interested: Bolton, Blackburn, West Brom, QPR, Everton
Following a falling out with the hierarchy at Man City, Onuoha will be looking for a way out of the Etihad in January.
Onuoha will be one of the hottest properties of the transfer window with a string of clubs chasing his signature, and City are likely to let him go either on loan or a cut-price fee.
Likelihood of moving clubs: Almost certain - He should have left City in the summer window, but the England right-back will be pretty much assured of a move in the new year.
3. Wayne Bridge (Man City)
3 of 12Teams interested: Fulham, Aston Villa, Sunderland
Another of City's outcasts and like Onuoha, Wayne Bridge also fell afoul of City's riches.
The left-back spent the back end of last season trying to save West Ham from relegation, but has yet to make an appearance for the Citizens this season.
Likelihood of moving clubs: More than likely - Bridge will need to take a pay cut in order to make himself more appealing to some of the clubs in the EPL, but it's a small price to pay for weekly first-team action.
4. Jack Rodwell (Everton)
4 of 12Team interested: Man United
Sir Alex Ferguson could be looking to young Jack Rodwell to solve the midfield crisis at Old Trafford, but is the youngster mature enough on the pitch to take up the role?
Everton will be looking for at least £20million if he is to leave Goodison Park in January.
Likelihood of moving clubs: 50/50 - United's midfield targets seem to change on a weekly basis, and Rodwell's name could just be one brought up in passing. Don't be surprised if the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool join the hunt if United put in an offer.
5. Gary Cahill (Bolton)
5 of 12Teams interested: Chelsea, Tottenham, Arsenal, Inter, Barcelona
He's got the signature that everyone wants, and Bolton have just about come to terms with the fact that the young star is going to leave the Reebok Stadium. Now, it's time for Owen Coyle to name his price.
Likelihood of moving clubs: Certain - If Bolton don't cash in now, then he can move for free at the end of his contract in June. Coyle's not stupid, it's time to cash in and rebuild. Cahill's got a bright future ahead of him, and making a move to one of Europe's big clubs will really kick-start his career.
6. Liam Ridgewell (Birmingham City)
6 of 12Teams interested: QPR, Stoke, Newcastle, West Brom, Aston Villa
After a six-month absence from the EPL, Liam Ridgewell will undoubtedly be gagging for some top-flight football, and there will likely be a host of clubs willing to come in and offer him that chance.
Likelihood of moving clubs: Almost certain - Birmingham will struggle to keep Ridgewell at St. Andrews, and they will surely now be thinking of the figure which they will want for him.
7. David Beckham (LA Galaxy)
7 of 12Teams interested: QPR, Tottenham, Paris St Germain
Beckham's return to English football has been teased for years, but could he actually be returning to the EPL in January?
Having trained with the Spurs squad in the recent past, rumours have suggested that he could join them as backup to the first team.
However, now Neil Warnock has come to join the party. The veteran midfielder will probably only move on loan to occupy his offseason from the MLS.
Likelihood of moving to an EPL club: Unlikely - I think we all know that the decision is not purely down to Goldenballs, but more down to 'er indoors. Given the choice of London or Paris? Do the math.
8. Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham)
8 of 12Team interested: Liverpool
Tom Huddlestone has found himself a fair way down the pecking order at White Hart Lane—behind Luka Modric, Scott Parker and Sandro—and Liverpool could be looking to add the English defensive midfielder to their impressive arsenal of midfielders.
Liverpool reportedly want the player as a replacement for injury-stricken Lucas.
Likelihood of moving clubs: Unlikely - 'Arry will want to keep T-Hud at Spurs. And you never know, he may find himself with more first-team opportunities if Modric is swept away from White Hart Lane in January.
9. Bobby Zamora (Fulham)
9 of 12Teams interested: Aston Villa, QPR, Sunderland
Fulham are said to want around £10million for the striker. Expect to see more teams join the race for his signature when the transfer window opens.
Likelihood of moving clubs: 50/50 - Fulham won't want to let go of their first-choice striker, but a bid of around £10million could be enough to persuade them.
10. Jermain Defoe (Tottenham)
10 of 12Teams interested: QPR, Newcastle
The success of Emmanuel Adebayor's spell at Spurs has almost made Defoe a redundant asset to the club, and the striker will want to get some first-team football to help him win a few more caps for England.
QPR and Newcastle look set to battle it out for the striker's signature.
Likelihood of moving clubs: Likely - Defoe has stuck with 'Arry for a long time now, but it's time for the veteran striker to move on to make the most of what's left of his career.
11. Adam Johnson (Man City)
11 of 12Teams interested: Liverpool, Aston Villa
Liverpool lead the race to add to their already midfield-heavy squad.
The English starlet has been pushed out of the City squad by the wealth of international talent that Roberto Mancini has brought in, making most of his appearances this year from the bench.
Likelihood of moving clubs: 50/50 - Mancini will surely be looking to cash in on some of the dead weight in the City squad in the next couple of transfer windows, and selling Johnson would show that he's being ruthless.
