NFL Picks Week 15: Teams That Will Be Eliminated from the Playoffs This Week

Tim KeeneyDec 17, 2011

The NFL playoff picture is still incredibly murky, but a couple of teams will help us out on that this week.

Here's a look at three teams that will be kind enough to go ahead and remove themselves from any playoff scenarios this week.

San Diego Chargers

Let's start off with an easy one. At 6-7, the Chargers are still technically in the hunt for the second wild-card spot because they are just two games behind the New York Jets.

If they win out, and a lot of other teams lose a bunch of games, the Chargers could mathematically make the playoffs.

It's not likely, but hey, it's math. You can't argue with that.

Don't worry, though. The Chargers host the Baltimore Ravens this week. Baltimore has had the propensity to slip up on the road this year, but they are still competing for the AFC North. They'll come out and pound San Diego into the ground.

See ya later, Chargers.

Chicago Bears

The Bears are at home and they're playing a Seahawks team that is weak on the road, but that doesn't matter.

Chicago boasts a good defense, but that also doesn't matter.

Caleb Hanie and Marion Barber just aren't good enough to lead any NFL offense.

Seattle has been playing very well as of late and should pull the road upset behind the legs of Marshawn Lynch.

A loss for Chicago would put them two games behind Detroit for the second wild-card spot, one game behind Dallas and in a tie (but would lose a tiebreaker) with Seattle.

It won't mathematically eliminate them, but it will realistically eliminate them.

Cincinnati Bengals

Call me crazy, but I think the St. Louis Rams will upset the Bengals this week. The Rams always seem to show up when we least expect it.

Example: Week 8 when they knocked off New Orleans at home.

The Rams are actually very underrated in terms of pass defense (eighth in opposing passing yards) and won't let Andy Dalton get in a groove.

The Bengals are fine giving Cedric Benson 15-20 carries per game, but they don't like relying on him. This one is going to turn into a low-scoring game.

I'll give the advantage to the home team with nothing to lose in that case.

If the Bengals do lose, they'll fall to 7-7 while the Jets, Oakland and Tennessee will all gain a game on them.

Cincy won't be recovering from that.
