Fantasy Football Week 15 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Nate Burleson and Sneaky WR Plays

Tim KeeneyDec 17, 2011

It's the fantasy football semifinals for most people this weekend, but that doesn't mean it's all lollipops and jelly beans.

Greg Jennings, for example, probably led a lot of the teams to the playoffs but is now out for the rest of the NFL regular season. Not good timing.

If you were burned by Jennings or other injuries, here's a look at three receivers who could save your season this weekend.

Nate Burleson, Detroit Lions

Calvin Johnson is clearly the best wide receiver on this team, but quarterback Matthew Stafford is proving that he’s going to let the defense dictate where he throws the ball.

Defenses are keying on Megatron with double and even triple teams, so Stafford is simply throwing the ball to other guys.

Titus Young is starting to step up as another big-play receiver, but Burleson is the clear second target in this offense.

He’s going to get an easy eight to 10 targets and will turn that into a productive fantasy day. For a guy that’s just 28 percent owned in ESPN leagues, he’s a steal.

Doug Baldwin, Seattle Seahawks

I imagine this game between the Seahawks and Bears will turn into a low-scoring, grind-it-out type of game, but that doesn’t mean Baldwin can’t be productive.

Chicago allows 40 throws a game, after all, so Tarvaris Jackson should at least get to 25 attempts, at the least.

Baldwin and Golden Tate led the ‘Hawks in targets last week. Tate’s role may be increasing, but Baldwin has given fantasy owners year-long consistency.

It likely won’t be spectacular numbers, but Baldwin should end up in the vicinity of six catches and 70 yards with the potential for a score. He’s a solid flex play this week.

Jabar Gaffney, Washington Redskins

The New York Giants have an explosive offense, but they also give up a lot of passing yards because of it.

You may not trust Rex Grossman, but he’ll throw it a lot and he’ll likely throw it for a bunch of yards. This is a similar matchup for Washington as last week’s one with New England was.

Gaffney had six catches for 92 yards and a touchdown in that one, so you can expect similar production. He’s clearly the second favorite target for Grossman behind Santana Moss, especially with Fred Davis out.

The Redskins offense might not be pretty to watch at all times, but the numbers will be there in the end.
