Eric LeGrand: Paralyzed Former Rutgers Star Miraculously Sits Up in Recovery
It's been a long and trying road to recovery, but Eric LeGrand, the Rutgers player who was paralyzed in a game against Army in 2010, is now sitting up for as long as 23 seconds, according to Brian Thompson of NBCNewYork.com
This is an amazing story for a player who suffered a horrific fate in a freak accident. The one-time football star has fought through a frustrating recovery process, so milestones like this are downright heroic.
LeGrand reportedly has to be helped to the sitting-up position, but once there, he is able to balance and fight his way through the process of sitting upright.
The determination LeGrand is putting on display is incredible. Being able to sit up may not sound like a monumental accomplishment, but it's great news for the former football star who refuses to let the unluckiest of plays hold him back from moving forward with his life.
LeGrand gave an interesting answer when questioned as to whether or not he was able to feel anything, saying, "I feel like a sensation is going down, that a signal is trying to get down, but it's not getting down to physically do it myself."
It's great to hear that LeGrand is making progress. He's truly an inspiration, and it's stories like his that really put character and bravery into perspective far more than anyone can do on a playing field.
