Dayne Crist To Choose Between Kansas and Wisconsin: Which Does He Pick?
The Notre Dame quarterback situation looks like it's not going to include Dayne Crist.
He has received permission to seek other schools and transfer (via USA Today). Crist was the starter for the Irish in the beginning of the season, but after a horrible Week 1, he was benched.
Crist visited Delaware, Kansas and Wisconsin as the three possible transfer schools. Now, according to NBC Sports, it is down to just Wisconsin and Kansas. He is wrapping up his visit with the Badgers and we expect a decision soon.
Where will the former Notre Dame quarterback be playing next season?
Let's predict where he ends up between the two schools.
Wisconsin
1 of 3Going to Wisconsin would be great for Crist: He would be playing for a fantastic team that has a history of winning. He would also have a chance to not only reach a BCS bowl, but possibly win a national championship. He would be playing for a great head coach.
There are the negatives to joining Wisconsin, though: That's a fact that many other potential quarterbacks consider as well. He would have to compete for his job.
He had to do that in Notre Dame and it didn't work out so well for him.
The expectations are also through the roof at Wisconsin. The Badgers just had incredible success with Russell Wilson, and some key players are leaving—including a majority of the offensive line and leading wide receiver Nick Toon.
Kansas
2 of 3Kansas has something no other school can offer, and that's Charlie Weis as the head coach. Weis is the same guy who recruited Crist at Notre Dame.
Crist would be able to thrive under his offense and put up awesome numbers. He may not have the same weapons around him that he would have in Wisconsin, but that gives him the chance to prove he is the real deal.
Great quarterbacks make the players around them better, and that's what Crist would have to do as a Jayhawk. He would also have a tough schedule to give him a ton of exposure: The Jayhawks play Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Kansas State, Texas and Baylor next season.
Kansas may have been more of an afterthought before, but with Charlie Weis running the show, that may have changed a bit.
Decision?
3 of 3I think Crist goes to Kansas.
Wisconsin has a lot to offer and is a bigger program, but with this being his last shot, I'm sure he wants to be a starter. He doesn't want to have to compete, and in Kansas he wouldn't have to.
He would be playing in head coach Charlie Weis' spread offense, and he should be able to put up fantastic numbers. He'll also be playing in a very competitive Big 12 conference against some of the best teams in the country.
The expectations at Kansas wouldn't be as steep because the Jayhawks football program isn't used to overwhelming success. So, if he fails, it's not as big of a deal as it would be if he picked Wisconsin.
I wouldn't be shocked if he became a Badger, but I see him becoming a Jayhawk instead.
