Michigan Football Recruiting 2012: Wolverines' Biggest Remaining Needs
Michigan has done quite well for themselves this recruiting cycle. They have a very good chance to land a top-10 class and could be entrenched in the top five should a few things shake out their way.
Brady Hoke already has 23 commitments for 2012 and Big Blue is rolling. With so many pledges, the class is almost full. However, there are still a couple big names out there that have Michigan on their radar.
Let's see who they are.
Pipkins Set To Begin Recruiting Boehm
1 of 5Evan Boehm is the No. 1 OC in the country and could even be a great OG in college. He's 6'4", 290 pounds and has a skill set for an interior OL.
Boehm has backed off his commitment to Missouri, and Michigan, Iowa, Auburn and Oklahoma are schools he is looking at.
Michigan commitment Ondre Pipkins is a Missouri native and recruit that has helped lead the charge for the Wolverines this cycle and Boehm tells Scout.com he expects to be hearing from the 4-star DT soon.
Top Three for Payton
2 of 5The 4-star WR Jordan Payton has Notre Dame in his final three, along with Cal and Michigan. Payton was at Michigan for the legendary Notre Dame game and had a blast.
A 6'2", 190-pound WR from Southern California, Michigan was his leader for a while, and Cal has been recruiting him hard; this is a toss-up and I could see him signing with any of the three schools.
Top Five for Banner
3 of 5Finally, we have a top and final list for OT Zach Banner. A 4-star prospect from Washington, Banner stands a huge 6'9" and weighs 300 pounds. His recruitment has been all over the place because he's liked so many schools.
Now, Banner says he has a final five of Washington, USC, Michigan, Oklahoma and Notre Dame. He visited Michigan on September 10th.
Still in the Running for Garnett
4 of 5Speaking of OL recruits from the state of Washington, Josh Garnett is also in the plans for Big Blue. Garnett took a trip to Ann Arbor on November 25th and was present for the Ohio State game.
Michigan commit and OL Erik Magnuson has been on Garnett to join him at Michigan, and the coaches have talked to Garnett about being the next Jake Long and Steven Hutchinson.
Stanford, Notre Dame, Miami, Washington, USC, Cal and Auburn are other schools in the mix.
Michigan in Diggs Latest Round of Cuts
5 of 5Stefon Diggs is one of the most electrifying players in the country, as the 6'0", 190-pounder is a dynamic playmaker on he offensive side of the ball. He can play both WR and RB and also return kicks and punts.
Diggs is also being recruited as a DB too. Michigan just wants him on campus and they'll figure it out from there, as the Wolverines are in Diggs' top eight schools.
Florida, USC, Auburn Virginia, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech and Cal round out the final eight.
