National Signing Day 2012: Which Prep Stars Will We Be Watching Next Fall?

Eric BowmanDec 15, 2011

Impact freshmen are drastically changing college football, and out of the class of 2012, we're sure to see big-time players make headlines.

College football recruiting takes a back seat to the eyes of the public during the regular season, but it's in full force now that bowl season is here.

These winter months are very important for a program to pick up ground in its recruiting class.

With that said, here are three incoming freshmen sure to make an impact in the fall of 2012.

Keith Marshall, RB

The No. 1 running back in the class of 2012, Marshall announced that he will be playing for the Georgia Bulldogs.

This is the second year in a row Mark Richt landed the top overall running back, and because of Marshall's speed, he will see the field of play right from the start.

Given the frustrations Georgia had a running back this past season, Marshall even has a chance to win the starting role.

Listed at 5'11", 190 pounds, Marshall will step in for Georgia right away to help the Bulldogs have a more balanced offensive attack.

Since he's enrolling in January, he'll have a leg up on many other freshmen in 2012, so keep an eye on this running back next season.

Dorial Green-Beckham, WR

As the top wide receiver of 2012, and the No. 1 overall recruit by Rivals, Green-Beckham is getting offers from every top school. He's kept quiet about which school he'll be picking, but indications are pointing toward him landing in the Big 12 or SEC.

He took an official visit to Texas in November, and is scheduled to visit Oklahoma this weekend according to Rivals.com

Listed at 6'6", 220 pounds, Green-Beckham will see action from day one, and he's going to be a player to watch throughout his college career. He's extremely athletic, and is drawing comparisons to Calvin Johnson, which means he's bound to be a star for whichever school gets him.

My prediction is that he chooses Oklahoma, but if Alabama wins the title, it could be what persuades Green-Beckham to head south.

Stefon Diggs, ATH

The best athlete in the class of 2012, Diggs has yet to narrow down his choices. He has plenty of options to choose from, but he's not giving many hints as to where he'll be playing college football.

Wherever he ends up at, Diggs should see playing time right away because he is so dangerous with the ball. He can play at wide receiver or running back, as well as the option to be a return specialist if called upon.

Listed at 6'0", 185 pounds, Diggs has the explosiveness to get past college defenders, and he excels at making people miss. His elusiveness will help him get the ball as a freshman.

My prediction is that he heads south to play for the Florida Gators since he'll have a great opportunity for playing time with Chris Rainey and Jeff Demps both leaving.
