Raheem Morris Only Cares If Your Name Starts with "G"

Tom EdringtonDec 12, 2011

Raheem Morris does not care what fans think.

Nor does he care what the beat writers write.

"The only criticism I care about comes from people whose name starts in 'G'," is what Morris said at his Monday press conference, which you could have heard for yourself on WDAE 620.

That's all we need to know for now. And that "G" initial, in case you've been slumbering for a few years, stands for Glazer, as in Joel or Ed or Bryan or Avram or perhaps even Kevin and let's not leave out the only daughter of Malcolm Glazer, Darcie.

With that in mind, the Kansas City Chiefs dropped the axe on Todd Haley today. Todd Haley was 5-8 so far this season. Todd Haley was 10-6 last year and 3-13 the year before. Can you connect those dots?

Keep in mind the Hunt family has been at this NFL ownership gig a lot longer than the Glazers, and the Hunts don't typically make hasty or emotional decisions.

Let's see, bright spots at different times, but no meaningful progress?

Sounds like Hunt was describing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that Morris has been in charge of for nearly three seasons.

Check out Haley's record: 3-13, 10-6, 5-8. It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out that he's a mirror image of Morris—with the exception that he's done better than Morris this year.

Yes, Clark Hunt had his "Popeye" moment. Watching his Chiefs get flattened, it was all he could take and he couldn't stand for it any more.

At least the Chiefs weren't getting embarrassed by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"We're not emotional decision-makers," Morris added on Monday.

True, the Glazers don't work that way. They'll wait and let this mess of a football soap opera play itself out.

Clark Hunt refused to put up with a lack of "meaninful progress" because his dad, the late Lamar Hunt, wouldn't put up with it, either.

Now back to the fans, the writers and other observers, such as your servant here—well, as far as Morris goes, we don't count.

So let's do this.

This isn't criticism, but it's simply the facts as they stand. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have not made "meaningful progress" this season and yes, early, they did have "bright moments."

Well, the Bucs' 4-9 record says they are worse than the Kansas City Chiefs. And now Todd Haley is out of a job.

No criticism.

Just saying.

And that's from a guy whose name ends in "E."

Which, as Raheem Morris says, doesn't count.
