3 Possible Ways Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva Could Finish
Since his recent victory over Lyoto Machida at UFC 140, rumors have continued to run rampant regarding a possible superfight between Jon Jones and Anderson Silva.
The talks of witnessing two of the company's most dominant champions square off against each other will only continue to grow louder within the next year, and if it finally happens, mixed martial fans could be in for an interesting matchup.
However considering their dominance in their respective divisions, the possibility of deciding a rightful winner is a lot less predictable as some may think.
In this slideshow, we'll examine the potential bout between Jones and Silva and we'll look at the three possible outcomes.
Here are the 3 Ways Jon Jones vs. Anderson Silva Could Finish.
1.) Anderson Silva Via KO/TKO
1 of 3Anderson Silva is the most accurate and decorated striker to compete in MMA.
Jones has the ability to utilize an unorthodox set of strikes on the feet, partially due to his 84.5 inch wingspan, but after watching how efficiently Machida was able to get inside of the 24-year-old and land consistently, there is no question that Silva would capitalize on the opportunity.
Not to mention, Silva is so composed and intelligent on the feet that he'd likely be able to figure out Jones' timing and distance before the light heavyweight champion could push forward and look for a take down.
Despite a losing effort, Machida was able to lay out a blueprint on how to effectively land against Jones and compete against him on the feet.
Jones would undoubtedly make the bout competitive, but the Brazilian is so unpredictable on the feet that it'd be hard to believe he wouldn't find an opening and engage.
What Machida was able to expose in Jones' arsenal, Silva would do further damage and finish him.
2.) Jon Jones Via TKO
2 of 3Jon Jones displays some of the most effective wrestling skills in MMA and utilizes some of the most ferocious ground-and-pound.
Jones' size and strength gives him an advantage over almost every one of his opponents, including Silva. The 24-year-old would likely want to bring the bout to the ground as soon as he could to avoid Silva's creative and superior striking.
Silva doesn't demonstrate some of the greatest wrestling skills, which would likely make it easier for Jones to attempt the take down early and often during the bout.
From there, Jones' size and leverage would allow him to control Silva and overwhelm him on the ground, landing vicious strikes from top position before earning the stoppage via TKO.
3.) Jon Jones Via Unanimous Decision
3 of 3We have yet to see Jon Jones be tested or even pushed to the championship rounds during his young career so far.
The champion has shown to fatigue at certain times in some of his previous bouts, but against a caliber fighter like Silva, Jones would likely want to methodically break him down.
Jones' size and wrestling ability would allow him to control and overwhelm Silva once the bout was contested on the ground. Jones' ground-and-pound would also wear "The Spider" down and prevent him from gaining any advantage while the champion remained in his guard.
It is very hard to see Jones pull off a submission victory on Silva as he would have to really fatigue the Brazilian, who has a very good guard and submission defense, but his wrestling and size could eventually overwhelm and dominate Silva.
It's likely he could finish Silva, but the 36-year-old is very durable and it's evident he can sustain a lot of punishment.
Ultimately, Jones' wrestling and size would be enough to earn him a dominant victory via unanimous decision.
