Heisman Trophy Winner Robert Griffin III: How Will Baylor Do Without Him?
Robert Griffin III put up astronomical numbers in 2011 and was clearly the deserving winner of the Heisman Trophy.
There are some players who are just another big name at a university, and then there are some who define their college.
Robert Griffin III is that player. He single-handedly put Baylor football on the map.
But the question is, how long will they remain on the map once Griffin leaves? Baylor went 16 years between bowl games, dating from 1994 until Griffin stepped on the field last season.
The Bears had not been ranked in a final poll since 1986, a 25-year drought that Griffin has quickly ended. He is obviously the first Baylor Bear to win the Heisman, and he is in fact the first to finish in the top three from the school.
If Griffin decides to turn pro, which he just might, the question for Baylor next season will be where does that leave them?
The non-conference schedule for Baylor as it looks now is very favorable. They open the season against SMU before taking on Sam Houston St. and Louisiana-Monroe.
The schedule is not complete, but the Big 12 will be solid once again.
The recruiting class for Baylor is good, but not great. According to rivals.com, they have multiple three-star recruits and one four-star recruit as of right now.
With the exception of a few offensive linemen, Baylor will return everyone on that side of the ball. On defense, the Bears will bring back more than half of their starters and will need to improve.
With about two-thirds of their starters coming back, Baylor looks like they have a lot of talent, but without Griffin a six-win season would be a success.
Just ask Auburn what happened after the loss of Cam Newton last year.
If Griffin leaves, except Baylor to go 5-7 or 6-6 in 2012.
