Khan vs. Peterson Results: 2-Point Deduction Gives Peterson Edge over Khan

Mick AkersDec 10, 2011

In a fight that very few gave Lamont Peterson a chance to win, he gave the best performance of his life and took down Amir "King" Khan on a split decision, behind an aggressive approach and two points that were deducted from Khan for pushing too much.

Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KOs) is now the new WBA and IBF junior welterweight champion and puts a halt to Khan's (26-2, 18 KOs) mega-fight plans with either Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather in the welterweight division.

Khan came out firing and took the first two rounds convincingly, but Peterson took charge in Round 3 and the the fighters went back and fourth from there on out.

The two points that were deducted from Khan ended up being the deciding factor, and it gave Peterson the win in a fight that would have been scored in favor of Khan.

With the great show that was put on by the two fighters and the controversial point deductions that occurred, a rematch is all but guaranteed here and would be a pay-per-view-caliber fight after the hype that will build around the war we saw in the ring.

The two fighters landed punches at an almost identical pace. Khan landed 238 punches on Peterson, and Peterson landed 229 punches, with half of those going to the body, which slowed Khan down.

Peterson showed that although Khan is the faster fighter, being a bully in the ring, and being the more aggressive fighter, will trump any sort of speed deficiency.

Peterson used the hometown crowd to his advantage and turned the crowd's chants of "DC" into a flurry of blows that Khan will not soon forget.
