Miami Football: Latest News and Updates

Bleacher ReportDec 11, 2011

Although the Miami Hurricanes' season has already finished, it doesn't mean that things are silent in Coral Gables.

There is still plenty going on such as recruiting, players leaving early, and post season awards.

Here is the latest news and notes happening down at the University of Miami.

Note:  A day after this article was released, Miami's Lamar Miller declared eligible for the NFL draft.

Marcus Forston Declares Eligible for the 2012 NFL Draft.

1 of 5

Marcus Forston, who almost left after last season, has officially declared himself eligible for the 2012 NFL draft by signing with agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Forston was one of the most highly touted recruit's coming out of Northwestern High School in Miami.  Scout.com even had him listed as the number one ranked defensive tackle in the country,.

In his first season at Miami he didn't disappoint. Forston played in 12 games and had 18 tackles, three sacks, and four and half tackles for loss.

He was honored at the end of the season by making the Freshman All-American team by collegefootballnews.com and rivals.com.

Forston played in three games his sophomore year before a season ending injury.  He was awarded medical red-shirt and in his red-shirt sophomore year he showed signs of dominance.

Forston recorded 37 tackles, three sacks, and had the second-most tackles for loss on the team with 12.

Going into this season Forston was listed as a possible first round draft pick for the 2012 season.

His junior season didn't go as planned.

Forston was suspended for the first game for taking benefits and than in week four he suffered another season ending injury.

Forston registered five tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss, and a forced fumble this year.

Tommy Streeter Also Declares Himself Eligible for the 2012 NFL Draft.

Like Marcus Forston, Tommy Streeter has decided to forgo his senior season to try life at the NFL.  Streeter also signed with agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Streeter leaving was a surprise to me even though he already made his decision going into the 2011 season.

Streeter was basically a ghost under Randy Shannon having only caught six passes for 156 yards and a touchdown in his freshman and sophomore years.

Than he turned it on last year catching 46 passes for 811 and eight touchdowns - all ranked first on the team.

It didn't even look like the same player on the field.  Streeter would go up and catch everything, attacking the ball on every pass.

Streeter has the size (6'5) and speed (4.35/40) to become a deep threat in the NFL.

I just believed he could have polished his skills a little more by staying for his senior year.

Update on Recruiting

3 of 5

Head coach Al Golden and his staff are heading into the recruiting season with high hopes and so far there are good and bad.

First the good.

Even with the possibility of severe NCAA infractions Miami still has a listed 26 recruitment's that have verbally committed to playing for the Hurricanes.

Scout.com has Miami recruitment's ranked number six in the country.

There are several players that visited Miami recently including FSU defensive back commit, P.J Williams.

I am not 100% sure why Williams is visiting Miami but it couldn't hurt.  Golden would love every opportunity possible to snag the four-star recruit, especially from Florida State.

Now for the bad news.

The Hurricanes lost two recruits as of late, A.J. Leggett (four-star cornerback) and Ricquan Southward.

Leggett hasn't officially removed Miami as a contender but had written on Facebook last Thursday, "I don't think I will be playing in Miami next year."

Leggett has played at four different high schools and was told by Miami coaches that he would have a tough time getting into a private school like Miami due to all the high school transfers.

Miami has suggested that Leggett should maybe go to a prep school to help his academic standing, but he doesn't seem to want to go that way.*

Southward has recently changed his mind about Miami and has verbally committed to Ohio State.

Denzel Perryman Honored

4 of 5

I first remember seeing Denzel Perryman last year while writing an article on the Miami Hurricanes 2011 recruitment's.

I saw a fast linebacker that hit like a truck.  It seemed like no matter what video I watched, Perryman was drilling someone to the ground.

He continued that great playmaking ability in his first year at Miami and was awarded a spot on the CBSSports.com's Freshman All-American team.

Perryman recorded 69 tackles this year, second on the team, and was tied for third on the team with 6.5 tackles for loss.

Like I have said before, I truly believe Perryman will end his career at Miami as one of the best that has ever played the position.

2012 Recruit, Duke Johnson, Runs Wild Again

5 of 5

Duke Johnson is Miami's only listed five-star recruit according to scout.com.

The senior running back from Norland High School had a career high 375 yards and three touchdowns as Norland overcame a 20 point deficit to beat Palmetto 35-27 on Friday night.

Johnson had 260 yards rushing and four touchdowns last week against No. 1-ranked Glades Central.

Johnson stated multiple times over the year that no matter what happens to Miami, he will be a Hurricane next year.

I can not wait to see Johnson in a Hurricane uniform.
