Premier League: Winners and Losers Holiday Edition

A look at who the winners and losers were in the English Premier League over the holiday season.

Winners

Fulham

Two tough London derbies against Spurs and Chelsea, and Fulham fans have to be happy with the two draws. A nine game unbeaten run has moved Fulham into a top 10 position.

It has been a year since Roy Hogdson took over at Craven Cottage and he has done a fantastic job turning Fulham around.

Liverpool

It was two games and two wins for the league leaders, as they showed why they are title contenders against Newcastle.

The big win at Newcastle, plus the clean sheet against Bolton, means that Liverpool have been able to put a sizeable dent into Chelsea's sizeable goal advantage.

Everton

Finally, Everton are getting back to playing brand of football. Four consecutive clean sheets by Tim Howard have propelled Everton into the top six.

Wigan

Steve Bruce, like Roy Hogdson, is another manager who has done an impressive job managing a small club in 2008. Over the last seven games, Wigan has the best record in the Premier League with 18 points. This winning streak has moved Wigan up to seventh place.

Losers

Tottenham

It was a bad holiday season for Spurs, with only one point in two games against Fulham and West Brom. Spurs are very much involved in the relegation battle, and will enter the new year with only goal difference separating them from a bottle three position.

Portsmouth

It is a sinking ship at Pompey as David James and Sol Campbell have gotten old really quickly. Two more loses over the holiday weekend means that Tony Adams has only three wins in his first 15 games in charge. How much longer can Portsmouth stay with Adams before they are forced to make a change?

Bolton and Newcastle

It was a lost weekend for Bolton and Newcastle as they both lost twice this weekend, with both teams losing to Wigan.

Chelsea

Clint Dempsey’s late goal against Chelsea on Sunday meant that Chelsea have now taken just 10 points from their last 21. That is purely middle of the table form.
