Boston Bruins: Time to Panic After the First Losing Streak Since October?

Cory DuceyDec 9, 2011

After going through a torrid pace of winning in November, the Bruins have since been 2-2-0 on their last four games and have lost their last two games in that span.

So what has changed?  Not a lot.

Some folks were hitting the panic button when they lost to the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, and some are most likely pounding the heck out if it since the loss last night to the Florida Panthers.

So do the fans need to panic?

Not so fast.

This is the first losing streak the Bruins have faced since a three-game skid at the end of October.  Both games lost recently were close games.

In the Winnipeg loss, both goals happened because the Bruins let them into the zone too easily.  Both were great goals, but the Bruins could have done more.  It happens.

In the Florida loss, the Bruins collapsed on the net but they couldn't cover the rebound, and a goal was scored with just 2:32 left of the game.

That said, Florida's roster and in particular, its goalie Jose Theodore, played very well that night and kept the Bruins off the score sheet.

Theodore had better consider buying the nets that he played in as there was four, maybe five, shots that beat him, but not the post.  That's hockey for you.  You have to beat the posts as well as the goalie, and the Bruins could not win either battle.

So they lost two games in a row.  I, like many other fans, do not expect the Bruins or any other team, for that matter, to run the tables on the teams.

Both games were not due to lack of effort.  Just the puck luck was not there for them in the last couple of games.  Especially the Florida match.

Both games were very close and one cannot take any team for granted.  The Jets aren't a major threat at this time, but the Cats?  Completely different story.  This team got beefed up with talent, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them not only make the playoffs, but go deep if they can keep this up.

Amid the buzz of Tyler Seguin's missing the team breakfast and meeting on Tuesday, it should not have been blown out of proportion.  Some are saying this will create a distraction.  It's a kid in the the big leagues that made a mistake, and the coaching staff took care of it.  You'll be sure that this probably won't happen again.  If this distracts you, you need help.

So in my humble opinion, the Bruins are not done, not by a long shot.

There is no need to panic at this time.  Give them a game or two and if they continue their losing ways, they will need to look within themselves to find out what needs to be fixed...if anything is broken.

This is Cory Ducey saying "Hit Hard, But Keep It Clean."
