College Football: Tracking All the Latest Big College Football Coaching Hires

Randy ChambersDec 8, 2011

The college football coaching carousel continues to turn, and big schools continue to try and find the right guy to lead their programs.

This season, there have been many coaches fired and more bigger schools than usual are looking for replacements.

Every day, there is a new rumor about where a head coach will go next or which coach will leave his current gig for another.

It's really enough to drive you crazy.

But lately there have been a few big hires. Here are the latest.

Arizona State: June Jones

1 of 5

Dennis Erickson couldn't get the job done in five seasons as he finished with a sub-par 31-30 record and only made a bowl game once.

Enter the recently hired June Jones who left SMU after four seasons. He is a great offensive coach who runs a fantastic offensive scheme and should help the Sun Devils compete with the top Pac-12 teams.

Fans should be excited about the hire because, at the very least, they'll be fun to watch.

North Carolina: Larry Fedora

The Tar Heels are another team that recently hired an offensive guru in Larry Fedora. He just coached Southern Miss to a C-USA Championship as they upset the highly ranked Houston Cougars.

He's known to have made improvements everywhere he has been and has a great track record.

He should be able to turn this program around and have North Carolina as a top team in the ACC. It will no longer be just a basketball school.

Ohio State: Urban Meyer

3 of 5

The Buckeyes had a terrible season this year and nobody really knew what the future held for this team. With the hire of Urban Meyer, that changes everything.

Meyer is a fantastic recruiter and has a great track record of winning everywhere he has been. He will be able to steal some of the top recruits from the SEC and have this team winning in no time.

There are concerns about his health issues, but as of right now, those are looking okay.

Arizona: Rich Rodriguez

4 of 5

The firing of Mike Stoops was one of the most surprising this season.

Arizona had a very talented team this season but for whatever reason just couldn't get going. Rich Rodriguez has the offensive mind to get this offense going as he is a master of the no-huddle and spread-option offense.

Having a big name coach in Arizona will draw respectable recruits and should have the Wildcats making bowl games consistently.

FAU: Carl Pelini

5 of 5

Carl Pelini helped turn around Nebraska's defense, but he's now the head coach of the FAU Owls.

He will be replacing a legend in Howard Schnellenberger but should be to the task as he has a lot of experience.

FAU is still a very young program that had its first season in 2001. They had a horrible season this year, but with time, the Owls should start to develop into a solid program like all of the other Florida schools.
