NBA Free Agents 2011: Top-Scoring Big Men the Teams Are Fighting for
December 9 marks the beginning of the NBA free-agency period, and perhaps the most interesting aspect of that is where will all the big men will wind up signing.
While not necessarily a star-studded class, it's a decent class for big men that includes the likes of Nene and Tyson Chandler, among others.
Here's a look at the top-scoring big men that teams are fighting for.
Nene
1 of 7Nene is coming off a season in which he averaged 14.5 points per game for the Nuggets and is currently the most coveted big man on the market.
He's going to get close to max-money, and the Nuggets, Rockets, Nets, Warriors and others are all in on him.
Glen Davis
2 of 7A return to Boston could be in order for Davis, who averaged a career-best 11.7 ppg last year.
Yet while Boston seems focused on other things at the moment, the Pistons could be prepared to offer him their full mid-level exemption.
New Orleans also has shown interest in the former LSU star.
Tyson Chandler
3 of 7For only the second time in his career, Chandler averaged double figures in points, posting a 10.1 ppg season last year with Dallas.
He won't be returning to Dallas this season, and every team that needs a big man is linked to him one way or another, with the Warriors making him their top priority.
Marc Gasol
4 of 7Gasol is coming off a very good year in which he averaged 11.7 ppg for a very talented Grizzlies club.
If he weren't a restricted free agent, he would likely be the most coveted man on the market.
It's all but certain Memphis will match any offer sheet he signs.
Kris Humphries
5 of 7Humphries averaged a career-best 10.0 ppg in his contract season last year.
So far, there isn't much interest in Humphries despite averaging a double-double a season ago.
For Humphries, it might be a case of waiting until the other guys sign before teams come after him.
David West
6 of 7West is probably the most talented scorer of all the big men currently on the market, but he is coming off of major knee surgery, which could affect his value on the market.
He was averaging 18.9 ppg before his injury a season ago and has averaged 16.7 ppg for his career.
West seems to be leaning toward a return to New Orleans, but several other teams are in on him, with Indiana maybe being the front-runner.
Greg Oden
7 of 7When healthy, Oden can play.
He quietly averaged 11.1 ppg in Portland a season ago, and a return to the Blazers is likely in order, although other teams including Miami could be in the mix.
