Sports on the High Seas: Can Royal Caribbean Keep a Sports Nut Happy?
Larry Burton (Syndicated) WriterJust a few days after the chaos of the BCS Championship Game is over, I'm taking on an assignment that rewards me after the rigors of a busy college football season and also rewards my wife for putting up with it all.
After covering the University of Alabama and the SEC all year, it might be nice to tread on a different track, and this certainly is something different.
We will be embarking on the Jan. 15th voyage of Royal Caribbean's newest ship, "Allure of the Seas," for a seven-day vacation out of Miami, Florida.
Want to live life vicariously through me on this trip? I'll be doing stories about how the ship tries to keep sports junkies like me satisfied with onboard television, sports bars, Internet and all things electronic.
Then we'll explore the sports options onboard for all you weekend warriors who still consider yourselves athletes.
This is a much-needed rest before the 2012 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, where I'll be covering the game and other news surrounding the event.
Who says the life of a sportswriter is all press boxes and sweaty locker rooms?
And hey, if you want to sail along, I'm sure Royal Caribbean can find an empty room or two for you and your friends. But hurry, the ship is filling up fast.
With so much to see and do on this ship, I can't wait to see if they can keep this sports junkie satisfied.
