GSP Injury: Why Georges St-Pierre Will Never Be the Same
George St-Pierre was set to return from a knee injury he endured earlier this year for UFC 143 against No. 1 contender, Nick Diaz.
However, St-Pierre's career was flipped upside down when Dana White released a statement via Twitter that the current welterweight champion would be sidelined for 10 months.
White stated: "GSP blown acl will be out for 10 mos. Now Condit vs Diaz for the interim welterweight title on Feb 4th in Las Vegas!!"
As news began to break, UFC fans began to ponder upon the future of St-Pierre.
Questions arose, "Will GSP ever be the same?"
Plain and simple, no.
St-Pierre's recent injury will have a lasting effect on his historic career, as fans won't see the highly talented Canadian until at least mid-September of 2012.
And, it's likely St-Pierre will never be the same.
Prior to his injury, St-Pierre was often criticized for his inability to finish off his opponent. In fact, St-Pierre hasn't finished an opponent since his 2009 bout with BJ Penn at UFC 94.
However, this hasn't always been the case, as St-Pierre began his career considered a legitimate knockout artist as well as a highly skilled submission specialist.
On top of St-Pierre's inability to finish are his frequent heart-wrenching run-ins with injuries.
This is the second time in a two-month span that St-Pierre has been removed from a main event due to an injury.
With George St-Pierre out until at least late 2012, it's likely he'll never be the same fighter he once was.
