Fantasy Football Week 14: Matthew Stafford, Ray Rice and 5 Fantasy Locks

Tim DanielsDec 7, 2011

Congratulations to all of the fantasy football owners who qualified for the playoffs. Now, it gets serious. Every decision can be the difference between advancing to the next round and an owner's season coming to an abrupt, disappointing end.

Knowing which players will post monster numbers is the first step to assuring fantasy dominance. While a sneaky flex play can help put a team in position to win, it's the star players who need to come up big to push a team over the top.

Here are five players who will do just that in Week 14.

QB: Matthew Stafford

1 of 5

Stafford ranks fifth in average scoring among quarterbacks and is coming off a 400-yard performance versus the Saints. He's topped 20 points four times during the season and scored 19 against in his last game against the Vikings, who are this week's opponent.

Minnesota ranks last against opposing fantasy quarterbacks. The team's defense has given up at least 15 QB points in seven straight weeks, including a reason 37-point explosion by fantasy football superhero Aaron Rodgers.

It's hard to imagine them ending that streak against Stafford, who will be looking to get the Lions back on track toward the playoffs.

Week 14 Projection: 25 fantasy points

RB: Ray Rice

2 of 5

Baltimore's diminutive, yet powerful, workhorse ran for over 200 yards against Cleveland last week. Rice should be in line for another huge game against the lowly Indianapolis Colts, who are annually terrible against the run, on Sunday.

The best thing about the Rutgers product is owners know he's always going to get his touches. With so many running back by committee situations around the league, owning a back who doesn't have to look over his shoulder after every play is a beautiful thing.

Rice has burst through the 25-point threshold twice over the past three weeks and it would not surprising to see him do it again versus Indianapolis.

Week 14 Projection: 26 fantasy points

RB: Maurice Jones-Drew

3 of 5

Jones-Drew sputtered out of the gate, scoring less than 10 points in four of his first seven games. He's rebounded nicely, though, and should continue to dominate against a porous Buccaneers run defense, which ranks 31st against opposing fantasy RBs.

Like Rice, Jones-Drew doesn't have a backup whose threatening to take carries away. That means he plays on virtually every down and, during his resurgence, his PPR value has also increased with at least four grabs in three straight games.

When a player is as hot as Jones-Drew has been lately, it's hard to bet against him. He should have no trouble leading fantasy owners to the next round.

Week 14 Projection: 22 fantasy points

WR: Greg Jennings

4 of 5

Out of Green Bay's 12 games, Jennings has caught a touchdown in nine of them. That's an eye-popping statistic. Even though he's only scored 20 points in a game once this season, he continues to be one of the most reliable fantasy wideouts.

He should keep rolling against the Oakland Raiders, who haven't had much luck getting teams out of the end zone this season. The defense has allowed 21 passing TDs and have given up at least one to an opposing WR in all but two games.

All signs point to another big afternoon for Jennings as the Packers continue their trek toward a perfect season. It's been quite a run for both him and the team.

Week 14 Projection: 18 fantasy points

TE: Jimmy Graham

5 of 5

There are really just two categories when it comes to fantasy tight ends, Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham or everybody else. Those two guys have separated themselves from the pack in a big way and provide a big advantage to their respective owners.

Both are strong plays again this week, but Graham has an easier matchup. The breakout star has only scored less than seven points once all season and is averaging more than 12 points per week as Drew Brees' favorite red zone target.

Tennessee ranks 26th versus TEs, which should equate to a lot of operating room for Graham over the middle. He's been a hidden gem and there's no reason to start doubting him now.

Week 14 Projection: 14 fantasy points
