Penn State Scandal: All 8 Victims Reportedly to Testify at Next Week's Hearings
Each alleged victim involved in the 40 counts of sexual assault in the case versus Jerry Sandusky will testify against him next week. ABC's Collen Curry reported hearing this news from "people close to the case."
There are eight victims in all, and they are reportedly prepared to take the stand when the preliminary hearings in the case begin next week.
This is certainly a big blow to Sandusky's defense. According to Curry of ABC News, "Sandusky's lawyer, Joe Amendola, previously told ABC News that at least one of the boys had denied that he was abused."
The victim who Amendola claimed was denying the allegation is a central figure in this scandal. The boy in question is the one involved in the infamous shower incident in the Penn State locker rooms.
Sandusky's lawyer said he believed he knew which boy, victim No. 2, that was.
Amendola was quoted by Curry as saying, "The kid is...now grown up, he's in his 20s. He's adamant that nothing sexual occurred."
This is key evidence in the far-reaching issues involved in this scandal. That incident is the basis of the alleged cover-up at Penn State that has resulted in the firing of longtime coach Joe Paterno and University President Graham Spanier.
In light of this news, and the general ineptness displayed by Amendola throughout this process, it is hard not to conclude that the lawyer completely fabricated the statement of the boy's denial.
It is hard to fathom what gains he expected to get from this statement if they were not true. He and his client now face an even bigger backlash for this seemingly odd attempt at manipulating perception.
And fabricated or not, any chance the defense had at clearing Sandusky of charges suffered a massive blow with the news off all victims taking the stand.
The hearing is scheduled to start on December 13th and is expected to last several days.
