Michael Bisping and the 10 Most Overlooked Fighters in the UFC
Every sport has its fair share of athletes who dedicate their time and effort to doing what they deeply love.
Unfortunately, many of these athletes go unnoticed despite the commitment they put forth.
The sport of mixed martial arts is no different.
Specifically, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has evolved into one of the world's fastest-growing organizations and is filled with fighters who simply are overlooked.
For some reason or another, these fighters don't receive the credit they are due.
The following slides display the 10 most overlooked fighters in the UFC today.
Let's take a look.
Joseph Benavidez
1 of 10Joseph Benavidez is the definition of "overlooked" in the bantamweight division of the UFC.
Benavidez has fallen short in his career just two times, as both defeats came at the hands of the current champion, Dominick Cruz.
Taking away his two losses, Benavidez is nearly flawless.
Joe Lauzon
2 of 10While Joe Lauzon opened a lot of eyes with his impressive submission victory over Melvin Guillard at UFC 136, he remains one of the most overlooked fighters in the UFC today.
Lauzon has posted a 8-3 record inside the Octagon and has recorded 17 career victories by way of submission.
Even still, "J-Lau" is overlooked.
Tim Boetsch
3 of 10Things haven't always been smooth sailin' for Tim Boetsch. He began his UFC career with a 2-2 record before being dismissed as a light heavyweight.
However, Boetsch has now returned to the Octagon and fights in the middleweight division.
Boetsch has posted a perfect 2-0 record and is set to take on Yushin Okami at UFC 144.
However, despite his success, "The Barbarian" continues to go unnoticed.
Jon Fitch
4 of 10Jon Fitch may very well be the most overlooked fighter in any organization of mixed martial arts, as all he's done is win since entering the UFC in 2005.
However, despite losing just one fight in his 15 career Octagon appearances, Fitch hasn't received the credit he's due.
Instead, Fitch continues to wonder what he has to do to earn himself a welterweight title shot.
Travis Browne
5 of 10There are some mixed martial arts fan who don't even know who Travis Browne is or in what weight division he fights.
Browne is a current heavyweight who's yet to be defeated over the course of his career.
Not only is Browne overlooked, but so is his impressive knockout power that has finished off nine of his 13 career opponents.
Donald Cerrone
6 of 10Donald Cerrone has quickly established himself as a legitimate contender in the lightweight division of the UFC.
However, fans don't realize how good Cerrone is, as he's already approaching elite status just four fights into his UFC career.
Cerrone is not only one of the more underrated fighters in the UFC, but one of the most overlooked as well.
Jared Hamman
7 of 10Jared Hamman began his mixed martial arts career with an impressive 11-1 record en route to joining the UFC.
However, Hamman struggled early, losing two of his first three fights.
Hamman recently made the transition to the middleweight division and knocked out C.B. Dollaway in his 185-pound debut.
Hamman is certainly on the rise and is one of the most overlooked fighters in the UFC today.
Renan Barao
8 of 10Many fans have become well aware of who Renan Barao is after his impressive submission victory over Brad Pickett at UFC 138, but he remains overlooked.
Barao has won an amazing 27 career fights with just one loss on his résumé.
As time progresses, Barao will continue to climb his way up the bantamweight rankings, but for some reason he remains overlooked.
Michael Bisping
9 of 10Whether you love him or hate him, Michael Bisping has certainly established himself as one of the most overlooked fighters in the UFC.
Bisping has won four consecutive fights, including his most recent victory over Jason "Mayhem" Miller at The Ultimate Fighter 14 Finale.
Fans are slowly beginning to see just how good Bisping truly is.
Alexander Gustafsson
10 of 10Many UFC fans across the globe don't realize just how good Alexander Gustafsson truly is, as he's lost just one fight in his mixed martial arts career.
Gustafsson is coming off the biggest win of his UFC career over Matt Hamill at UFC 133.
However, for some reason or another, Gustafsson is being overlooked.
