BCS Rankings 2011: Inconsistent Teams That Beat Themselves
Frustration: "A feeling of dissatisfaction, often accompanied by anxiety or depression, resulting from unfulfilled needs or unresolved problems."
Kinda sounds like some college football teams, doesn't it?
Three teams in particular have to be awfully frustrated right about now, knowing they were capable of so much more but couldn't deliver.
Here are the three most inconsistent ranked teams that beat themselves.
3. Clemson (10-3)
I'm not going to be too hard on Clemson here, given they weren't even ranked before this season started, but after winning their first eight games, the Tigers dropped off considerably, and it took the last game of the regular season to get back to the BCS bowl picture.
The Tigers beat Auburn, Florida State and Virginia Tech in three consecutive weeks, but they also lost to Georgia Tech and North Carolina State, and they got blasted by South Carolina.
They deserve credit for making it to the Orange Bowl, but they should have never dropped all the way to No. 15 in the BCS rankings by season's end.
2. Oklahoma (9-3)
To think, Oklahoma was considered by far the best team in college football before this season started.
What a difference an actual season makes.
The Sooners blew out Texas and Kansas State but lost to unranked Texas Tech, Baylor and in-state rival Oklahoma State.
Against Oklahoma State, the Sooners got blown out of the building and frankly looked done at the first sign of trouble.
A very disappointing finish for a team that was supremely talented this season.
1. Michigan State (10-3)
Michigan State beat Michigan and Wisconsin, but lost to Notre Dame, Nebraska and Wisconsin in the grudge match.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins and the Spartans showed they had serious potential this season, but there were some performances that had you scratching your head.
Michigan State had the lead for nearly the entire second half against Wisconsin, but they allowed the Badgers to come back at the end and score the deciding touchdown with 3:45 remaining in the game.
That shows issues focusing as a unit to me.
