2011 Bowl Predictions: Which Games Will Be the Craziest Shootouts?

Joe PenkalaDec 4, 2011

The bowl schedule is out and the college football world is in for some great matchups.

While some games, like the national championship, may lend themselves to being more of a defensive game, others appear to be ready to be offensive shootouts that will keep the scoreboard operators alert and awake.

Here is a look at five games that will not come up short on points.

GoDaddy.com Bowl: Northern Illinois vs. Arkansas State

1 of 5

This game, while it may fly under the radar, will certainly have some offensive fireworks.

During the year, Northern Illinois was the 13th-ranked scoring offense in the nation while Arkansas State had the nation's 28th-ranked scoring offense.

To go along with the high-scoring offenses, Northern Illinois had an awful defense, and the Red Wolves have not seen an offense like the Huskies.

Cotton Bowl: Arkansas vs. Kansas State

2 of 5

In the Cotton Bowl, Arkansas will bring its high-scoring offense up against Kansas State, who is no stranger to the end zone.

The Razorbacks have the nation's 15th-ranked scoring offense and the Wildcats have the nation's 30th-ranked scoring offense.

With players like Tyler Wilson on the field, offensive fireworks are sure to follow.

Maaco Bowl: Boise State vs. Arizona State

3 of 5

While it may not be the destination that either thought they would end up at at the start of the year, Boise State and Arizona State will meet up in the Maaco Bowl.

Both of these teams have outstanding passing games and while the defenses are not bad, players like Kellen Moore will help put points up on the board.

Hawaii Bowl: Nevada vs. Southern Miss

4 of 5

As many saw this past weekend, Southern Miss can score with the best of them, and they managed to outscore the high-powered Houston Cougars offense.

On the other side of the Hawaii Bowl, Nevada averaged over 30 points per game. Nevada certainly seemed to hit their stride at the end of the year as they managed to score over 40 points in five of their last seven games.

Rose Bowl: Oregon vs. Wisconsin

5 of 5

The game that has the most potential to be a shootout is the Rose Bowl, featuring Wisconsin and Oregon.

Both teams spent the season lighting up the scoreboard, mainly on the ground, and both teams have also seen their defenses struggle as of late.

Between Monty Ball, Russell Wilson, Darron Thomas and LaMichael James, points will not be hard to come by in the 2012 Rose Bowl.
