BCS Rankings: Virginia Tech Proof You Need Strong Fanbase to Receive BCS Glory
Virginia Tech is the biggest fraud in the country...but it's ok because the Hokies have a strong and passionate fanbase that will travel.
The No. 11 ranked Hokies, proud holders of ZERO wins against top 25 teams, are going to the Sugar Bowl to play the 13th-ranked Michigan Wolverines.
V-Tech, 11-2, is coming off a 28-point beatdown at the hands of Clemson in the ACC Championship Game and has now lost by a combined 61-13 score against the Tigers this season.
They are in the Sugar Bowl, while teams like No. 7 Boise State (11-1) and No. 9 Kansas State (10-2) are left in lesser bowls despite actually beating ranked teams.
What makes matters worse is that Sugar Bowl officials admitted that the enormous Hokies fanbase was a factor in their decision to pick them.
Yes that's right, officials admitted that the 'ole "every game counts" mantra BCS officials echo is actually a bunch of B(C)S. It comes down to money and...more money. Then again I guess this shouldn't be a surprise considering how much of a joke the entire system is.
So because the Superdome in New Orleans will be filled with a large amount of dark purple, it's a win for the Sugar Bowl officials.
They'll ignore a non-conference slate that featured the likes of Appalachian State, East Carolina, Arkansas State and Marshall. They'll ignore the fact they were outscored by a combined 48 points in their only two games against a ranked opponent. They'll ignore the weak ACC slate including a four-point win against Duke. Most importantly, they'll ignore the much more impressive resumes of teams around them.
For all of the reasons stated above, I hope the Wolverines embarrass the Hokies. Not because I am a Virginia Tech hater, but because I am a BCS hater. It's the biggest example of how messed up the system is and why money makes the world go 'round in this sport.
It's about the haves and the have nots. Kind of like America in general right now...
