BCS Bowl Predictions: Predicting the MVP of Every BCS Game
Despite the land of Twitter exploding with all the questionable (I must be polite) decisions made, it is time to officially start making predictions on the five BCS bowls.
Sure, we could complain about who deserves which bowl and so forth, but what's done is done and nothing can be changed.
Let us enjoy the near future with the intriguing matchups in the BCS.
Without further ado, here are my five projected MVPs in their respected BCS bowl games.
Rose Bowl MVP: Darron Thomas
1 of 5I question the Pac-12 voters who did not give Darron Thomas at least an honorable mention in the postseason Pac-12 awards.
Matt Barkley and Andrew Luck were more deserving, arguably, but I really cannot make a case for anybody else but Mr. Thomas to at least get an honorable mention.
What else does the kid have to do?
How about winning a BCS bowl such as the Rose Bowl?
Darron Thomas will have plenty of opportunities to torch the Badgers, just like Kirk Cousins did in the Big Ten championship.
Though Russell Wilson could do the same to the Ducks, I firmly believe Thomas will go on to win the Rose Bowl and more importantly, his very first BCS game (0-2).
Runners-Up
Montee Ball, Russell Wilson, LaMichael James, DeAnthony Thomas
Underrated
Colt Lyerla and Jared Abbrederis
Fiesta Bowl MVP: Justin Blackmon
2 of 5I could go with a number of different candidates in this expected shootout, but I went with the player that will likely reach pay dirt the most.
I would look for Blackmon to perhaps record a hat trick in this game, since Brandon Weeden will be throwing his brains out early in this game.
Stanford is stout against the run but have really struggled against the pass, ranking 78th in the nation.
Some injuries have played factors, and it doesn't help to always be leading in games since most teams will throw every down when trailing by multiple touchdowns.
However, the Cowboys will be attempting to prove a point in this game.
Brandon Weeden may throw for 400 yards, but don't forget he threw zero touchdowns against the Sooners. Joseph Randle could also play a huge factor in this game, since he is a threat to score out of the backfield as well as in the slot or out in the flats.
I should mention Stanford is playing in this game and can put up a ton of their own points.
This game will come down to the turnover margin. If either commits a few ill-advised turnovers or penalties, this game could actually turn into a route since both defenses are extremely opportunistic.
Runners-Up
Andrew Luck, Brandon Weeden, Joseph Randle
Underrated
Levine Toilolo, Tyler Gaffney, Jeremy Smith
Sugar Bowl MVP: Denard Robinson
3 of 5This will be a very intriguing BCS bowl, because the Virginia Tech Hokies have been questioned by pretty much the entire nation.
Nobody in their wildest dreams thought the Hokies would stand a chance for a BCS game after getting demolished by the Clemson Tigers. I was so confident, I wondered if TCU would pass the Hokies in the BCS.
Instead, voters thought Virginia Tech was a better option than both Boise State and Kansas State.
Even Baylor is a better football team with a slightly better resume than the Hokies.
I have nothing against Bud Foster, Frank Beamer or any of the fine young players that Virginia Tech has, but getting blown out at the end of the season proves nothing other than you were a bit overrated.
I am off my soap box, but I will be the first to tell you that Michigan will struggle to put away this ACC squad. Reason being is the Hokies struggle miserably against the pass (Jayron Hosley should be healthy) and are very good against the run (17th, 107 YPG).
Sammy Watkins and Clemson throttled Foster's defense, but they will play with a lot more emotion and production than they did in the ACC championship.
That said, I may end up changing my MVP and winner of this Sugar Bowl, since I have only thought about this matchup for a few minutes.
But give me Denard Robinson and his ability to hit the home run ball against a defense that has shown the ability to give up game-changing plays.
Runners-Up
Fitzgerald Toussaint, David Wilson, Logan Thomas
Underrated
Danny Coale, Jarred Boykin, Junior Hemingway, Jeremy Gallon
Orange Bowl MVP: Tajh Boyd
4 of 5There will be a ton of points scored in nearly every BCS bowl (save LSU-Bama), and this will not be any different. The biggest factor will be the play of Mr. Boyd.
Tajh Boyd showed the willingness to run the ball and was effective in doing so.
Clemson will be balanced against the Mountaineers' defense, but Boyd will go bonkers because he has three or four future NFL players to spread the wealth to.
I look for Dwayne Allen to have big game near the red zone—that is of course if Sammy Watkins does not take it to the house himself.
Runners-Up
Sammy Watkins, Geno Smith
Underrated
Dwayne Allen, Mike Bellamy, Stedman Bailey, Ivan McCartney
BCS National Championship MVP: Tyrann Mathieu
5 of 5And in the game with the most on the line, give me the Honey Badger!
I am convinced the Bayou Bengals are the best team and that Alabama is the second best team (Alabama would be nearly seven-point favorites over Oklahoma State and in my eyes would win seven of 10).
Tyrann Mathieu is simply unstoppable, and he very well could make a big play on defense, not just on special teams.
Alabama may be better off kicking the ball out of bounds or Mathieu may single-handedly beat the Crimson Tide.
This game should come down to the wire due to the fact Alabama will do its best to slow down LSU's running game by loading up the box.
LSU will have to thread the needle when it matters most, or Alabama can pull off the upset by winning in the Bayou Bengals' backyard.
The Honey Badger is such a likable guy that he could win the MVP without even scoring. He makes such an impact in the secondary in addition to field position on punt returns.
Runners-Up
Trent Richardson, Reuben Randle
Underrated
Marquis Maze, Kenny Hilliard, Mo Claiborne, A.J. McCarron (All dark horse MVP candidates)
