2011 Bowl Games: Alabama Will Expose Flaws in LSU's Armor in BCS Title Game
Well it's official, Alabama and LSU will be squaring off in the BCS championship game.
While it may not be a popular decision, mostly because it's going to be an all-SEC championship game, it will eventually prove to be the right matchup, as they are the most deserving.
Ralph D. Russo of the Associated Press reports on the BCS decision:
"The Crimson Tide edged out Oklahoma State in the final round of voting and will play the top-ranked Tigers in the BCS national championship game on Jan. 9 in New Orleans.
It's not exactly a rematch the public was clamoring for—at least outside of Southeastern Conference territory. And it certainly will do nothing to quiet the critics of the Bowl Championship Series or the calls for a college football playoff.
But like it or not, the BCS has ensured that the SEC—home to both schools—will run its streak of national championships to six in a row.
"
These two teams are the best in the nation by a long-shot, and they deserve to play each other for the title.
Alabama's only loss on the year came at the hands of the now officially undefeated LSU Tigers, and it took them overtime and a few missed field goals from the Crimson Tide to do so.
Other than that, the Tide have been literally rolling over their opponents.
They averaged 36 points, 213.6 passing yards and 219.8 passing yards per game, but their most impressive stat came on defense, where they were first in the nation with an average of 8.8 points against.
If there has been a weakness in LSU's game, it's the inability to function when the defense is bringing heavy pressure, and that plays right into the hands of the Crimson Tide.
They held the Tigers to only nine points the last time they played, which included only 239 yards and 91 through the air.
The Tigers can be pressured into bad offensive decisions, especially when the defense is crowding the line and bringing pressure.
Alabama's defense is the best in the nation, and I believe it has what it takes to expose LSU's flaws and pull off yet another national championship.
