BCS Rankings: Boise State and Highly Ranked Teams That Will Miss BCS Bowls
Here's a quick look at three teams that, after tonight's rankings are released, will still be highly ranked in the BCS, but will fail to make a BCS bowl.
Boise State Broncos
The Broncos are likely pass Houston and Virginia Tech, which would make Boise State No. 5 in the BCS. They will be the second-highest ranked at-large team, behind Stanford.
Still, it's up to committees to choose the at-large teams and Boise State is likely going to get passed by.
Teams like Kansas State and Michigan make for much more attractive options. It's unfortunate, but pretty much everyone outside of Idaho disrespects Boise State. They won't draw the biggest crowds.
It's not out of the question, but I would say the Broncos' chances at making a BCS bowl are much worse than what is typical for a No. 5 team.
Arkansas Razorbacks
The only way the BCS could have a third team in a BCS bowl would be if Arkansas finished first in the SEC, but LSU and Alabama still finished No. 1 and No. 2 in the BCS rankings.
Obviously, that didn't happen; Arkansas won't be going to a BCS bowl. Still, the Razorbacks are No. 8 in the BCS and will likely move up.
They will be a very, very tough matchup for any team outside the BCS.
Virginia Tech Hokies
All the Hokies had to do to get into the BCS was beat Clemson. Well, they failed to do that and now their BCS hopes are all but over.
VT is currently No. 5 in the BCS, though, and shouldn't drop too far. Could they still get an at-large bid if they remain in the Top 10?
Possibly. Will it happen? No. The ACC just isn't good enough this year to deliver two teams to the BCS.
While the Hokies may still be ranked higher than Michigan State or Kansas State, they won't get at-large bids before the Wolverines or Wildcats.
