2011 Bowl Predictions: 10 Teams on a Roll Heading into Bowl Season

Matt ShetlerDec 4, 2011

It's very hard to maintain a high level of play throughout the course of a college football season.

In fact, a majority of teams that become bowl-eligible do so by limping into a bowl.

However, there are some teams that maintain a high level of play and have saved their best for the end of the season.

Let's take a look at 10 teams who are on a hot streak heading into bowl season.

1. Oklahoma State Cowboys

1 of 10

Record: 11-1

Current Win Streak: 1

Last Loss: November 18, at Iowa State 37-31

The Cowboys come in with the shortest win streak on this list, but I'm willing to forget their only loss, at Iowa State, and look at their body of work.

They've truly been on a roll all season, and judging by the way they took apart Oklahoma on Saturday night, they'll be a handful for whomever they play in a bowl game.

2. Alabama Crimson Tide

2 of 10

Record: 11-1

Current Win Streak: 3

Last Loss: November 5, vs. LSU 9-6

The Crimson Tide lost one big game this season, but take into account the way they're playing heading into the BCS Championship Game.

They've rebounded to win their final three contests, and the Alabama defense has been on a roll all season long.

3. Boise State Broncos

3 of 10

Record: 11-1

Current Win Streak: 3

Last Loss: November 12, vs. TCU, 36-35

The Broncos have been on a roll all season long, and realistically, they were one horrible field-goal attempt away from stating their case to play for the BCS Championship.

Boise State is a BCS-worthy team that won't be playing in a BCS game, but nonetheless, they definitely have something there.

4. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs

4 of 10

Record: 8-4

Current Win Streak: 7

Last Loss: October 1, vs. Hawaii, 44-26

The Bulldogs are a red-hot team coming in. They've rebounded nicely from a 1-4 start to the season to win their final seven games.

In the process, they won the WAC, and they could be a difficult matchup for a Mountain West or MAC team in a bowl game.

5. Arkansas State Red Wolves

5 of 10

Record: 10-2

Current Win Streak: 9

Last Loss: September 17, at Virginia Tech, 26-7

The Red Wolves won the Sun Belt Conference, and they're riding a nine-game win streak into the postseason. Their only two losses this year came at Illinois and at Virginia Tech.

They can throw the football, and quarterback Ryan Aplin is a fun player to watch.

6. Baylor Bears

6 of 10

Record: 9-3

Current Win Streak: 5

Last Loss: October 29, at Oklahoma State, 59-24

Baylor has the most exciting player in the nation in quarterback Robert Griffin III, and they're playing their best football of the season, riding a five-game win streak.

The Baylor offense is clicking and on a roll.

The lowest point total they've put up in the last three weeks is 45, in a win over Oklahoma.

7. Northern Illinois Huskies

7 of 10

Record: 10-3

Current Win Streak: 8

Last Loss: October 1, at Central Michigan, 48-41

The Huskies are on a roll, after beating Ohio to win the MAC and their eighth consecutive game.

A big reason for that is the play of quarterback Chandler Harnish, who's combined for over 4,300 yards and 37 combined touchdowns this season.

He's going to be a handful to stop in a bowl game.

8. Wisconsin Badgers

8 of 10

Record: 11-2

Current Win Streak: 5

Last Loss: October 29, at Ohio State, 33-29

A disastrous two-game losing streak in the middle of the season probably prevented the Badgers from playing for the BCS Championship.

Yet Wisconsin has reeled off five straight wins, and may be playing their best football of the season, heading into a Rose Bowl matchup against a talented Oregon team.

9. TCU Horned Frogs

9 of 10

Record: 10-2

Current Win Streak: 7

Last Loss: October 1, vs. SMU, 40-33

The Horned Frogs had high expectations coming into the season, but opened with with a loss to Baylor, thanks to a superhuman effort from Robert Griffin III.

Their only other loss came in overtime to SMU.

While this may not be as good of a TCU team as we've seen in the past, they're playing very well at the moment, riding a seven-game win streak.

10. LSU Tigers

10 of 10

Record: 13-0

Current Win Streak: 14 (dating back to last season)

Last Loss: November 27, 2010, at Arkansas, 31-23

Is their any team in the nation on a bigger roll than the Tigers?

Facing the nation's toughest schedule, playing in the nation's best conference, LSU has remained perfect, and has their spot assured in the BCS Championship Game.
