BCS Rankings Week 15: Teams Capable of Pulling off Stunning Upsets

Richard LangfordDec 4, 2011

The following two teams are good enough to beat any team in the country—on any given bowl day.

Both of these teams are playing better than their rankings suggests. They are led by dynamic QBs and have the explosiveness to keep any game within reach.

Baylor

Baylor should get a crack at a BCS bowl game. They won't, but they should. This team is playing good enough to take on any team in the country. When you have a QB like Robert Griffin III, you can win any game.

How good has Griffin been? He's been this good.

Griffin has completed 72.4 percent of his passes for 3,998 yards, 36 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Despite these crazy good numbers, Baylor tallied three losses. Those three losses came in the span of four games.

Baylor won five straight since that stretch and ended the season on fire. The Bears' offense has been as good as any in the country and they have put 159 points on the board in their last three games.

Their last effort was a 48-24 trouncing of a Texas team that had been playing solid defense.

What makes this offense almost unstoppable is the fact that they are balanced. They don't have to rely on their passing attack to beat you. This team is 18th in the nation in rushing yardage.

Baylor's defense is not nearly as dominant as their offense. The Bears are 109th in points allowed per game.

However, their offense is enough to guide them to an upset over even the best teams in the country.

Michigan

Michigan very well could be headed to a BCS bowl game.

They will be big underdogs, but they have the talent to win.

The Wolverines have two losses this season. The first was a November 5th defeat to Iowa, 24-16. Their only other loss was a 28-14 game to a very good Michigan State team.

Other than those losses, the Wolverines have  a string of sterling successes. None was more impressive than their 45-17 trouncing of Nebraska in their second-to-last game.

QB Denard Robinson has the dynamic playmaking ability to break down any defense. He has rushed for 1,117 yards and has thrown for 1,958 yards. He has used his arm and feet to account for 34 touchdowns.

Combine his playmaking with a defense that is ninth in points allowed this season.

With a defense that can keep the score down, and QB that can break down any defense, and you have a team capable of beating anyone in the country.
