2011 Bowl Games: Oregon Ducks and Each Pac-12 Team's Bowl Destination

Jeff ChaseDec 4, 2011

Tonight the college bowl games will be announced, and the Pac-12 will be led by the Oregon Ducks and Stanford Cardinal. There are a total of seven Pac-12 teams in this year's bowl games. Here is where each team is going to end up:

Arizona State Sun Devils: Maaco Las Vegas Bowl

The Sun Devils, led by quarterback Brock Osweiler, will be heading to Las Vegas to play either the TCU Horned Frogs or the Boise State Broncos. It will likely be the Horned Frogs, as the Broncos should be heading to an at-large bowl game with the Houston Cougars dropping their final game of the season.

The Sun Devils started out the season 5-1, but they failed to come through in their final six games and ended the season with an overall record of 6-6. They were destined for the Alamo Bowl with a long shot at the Rose Bowl, but they will now be settling for a spot in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Considering their close proximity to Las Vegas, Arizona State will be a shoe-in for this game. Whoever they end up playing will likely give them a run for their money, as both Mountain West teams are tough.

UCLA Bruins: Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl

The most controversial team of the division, the 6-7 Bruins fought their way into the bowl season picture by being approved to play even with a losing record. The Bruins made it to the Pac-12 championship game this season, but they were handled relatively easily by the Ducks.

If it wasn't for the USC Trojans receiving sanctions this season, the Bruins would likely be in the same spot without a chance for a bowl game since they would currently be 6-6. Since Army won't be playing in this game, the Bruins will likely be matched up against the Big Ten's Illinois Fighting Illini.

The Bruins did not play the Illini this season, but they could benefit by watching tape of them against the Sun Devils. The Illini and Sun Devils played each other in Week 3. Both UCLA and Illinois beat ASU this year.

Utah Utes: Hyundai Sun Bowl

The Utes played their first season as members of the Pac-12, and they managed to finish third in the Pac-12 South with an overall record of 7-5. The Utes were questionable early on in the season, but toward the end they turned things on. If it wasn't for a final-game loss to the Colorado Buffaloes, the Utes would be in a great position right now.

Their final record though will likely put them against the ACC's Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets are 8-4 this season and will likely give the Utes a good game. No team here really has clear advantage, but the Yellow Jackets have a win over Clemson to boost their confidence.

The Utes had a tough time making as much noise as they had hoped in their inaugural season, but they will be able to claim a victory on the season if they can win at the Sun Bowl.

Cal Golden Bears: Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl

The Golden Bears finished the season at 7-5, and they will likely be heading to the Holiday Bowl to take on the Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns recently dropped three of their final four games, including a huge loss to the Baylor Bears.

Cal is coming off a dominant victory over Arizona State on the road, and they will be looking to continue to capitalize on what has been an inconsistent season. Both teams are 7-5, but there is no doubt what Texas can do. Neither team has been extraordinary this season, but both have proven that they can turn it on at any moment.

Washington Huskies: Valero Alamo Bowl

With both the Cardinal and Ducks heading to greener pastures, the third best team in the Pac-12 will be the Huskies ,and they will be heading to the Alamo Bowl. The Huskies will likely have their hands full, as they will be taking on the Oklahoma Sooners, who will be out of luck when it comes to at-large bowl bids.

The Huskies will likely get romped, just like they did against Oregon, Nebraska and USC. They also dropped a game on the road to the Oregon State Beavers, which does not convince anyone that they will be able to stand up to the Sooners.

Stanford Cardinal: Tostitos Fiesta Bowl

Led by quarterback Andrew Luck, the 11-1 Cardinal should be heading to the Fiesta Bowl. While they would have liked to stay in California to play in the Rose Bowl, they were not able to overcome the Ducks and they lost out on their spot atop the Pac-12 North.

The Cardinal will likely be matched up against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, who recently manhandled the Oklahoma Sooners. While the Cowboys may still sneak into the BCS title picture, it remains likely that this is where they will be.

Luck and the Cardinal will be favorites heading into the game, but there is no doubt that this could be a shootout. Cardinal fans are probably still recouping from the Oregon loss, and the Cardinal will be looking to redeem themselves with this opportunity.

Oregon Ducks: Rose Bowl

There is no doubt that the Ducks will be heading to the Rose Bowl. With their win over the Bruins in the Pac-12 championship game, they have claimed their spot as the top team in the conference. They are going to be playing against the Wisconsin Badgers, who won the Big Ten championship over the Michigan State Spartans.

This will be one of the more electrifying games of the bowl season, as both teams run high-powered offenses. It is tough to say who will come out on top, but there is no doubt that this will be a game for the ages.

The Ducks are coming in hot, and they will be looking to continue to dominate and represent the best that the Pac-12 has to offer.
