BCS Rankings: Wisconsin and Teams That Will Make Biggest Jumps
Here's a quick look at three teams that stand to gain the most when the new BCS rankings are released tonight.
Wisconsin Badgers
The Badgers were able to get revenge against one of the two teams that beat them earlier this year, as they beat Michigan State in a 42-39 thriller.
With the win, Wisconsin clinches a berth in the Rose Bowl, so it really doesn't matter where they end up in the BCS rankings.
Still though, they should see a big jump. Both Michigan State and Georgia, teams that were directly above them, lost on Saturday. It also wouldn't be surprising to see Houston and Oklahoma take big falls.
Wisconsin still has a very legitimate shot at finishing in the Top 10 this season.
Boise State Broncos
Unlike Wisconsin, who doesn't care about the new rankings, the Broncos will need all the help they can get in their quest for a BCS at-large bid.
Luckily for BSU, both No. 6 Houston and No. 5 Virginia Tech lost yesterday. That means the Broncos will surely propel up to the No. 5 spot, barring a really big jump by Oregon.
Unfortunately for the Broncos, that still might not be enough for a committee to accept them into a BCS bowl.
Teams like Kansas State and Michigan could very well get bids instead of BSU. Still though, this big jump to No. 5 can only help them.
Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles
In order for No. 24 Southern Miss to earn a BCS bid, they would have to jump into the Top 16 and jump ahead of both TCU and Big East champion West Virginia.
It's certainly a long shot, but beating No. 6 Houston in impressive fashion is a start. With multiple teams ahead of Southern Miss that either lost or didn't play, they should jump quite a ways in the standings.
Top 16 is probably out of the question, but a top-20 finish would be an impressive place for the Conference USA champs.
