BCS Rankings: Why Boise State Deserves To Play for BCS National Title

Donald WoodDec 4, 2011

There is no reason teams like Alabama or Oklahoma deserve a chance at the BCS National title more than the Boise State Broncos.

One loss is one loss, any way you slice it.

While the Boise State Broncos won’t get the love they deserve, they should be playing LSU for the BCS National Title.

It all comes down to a computer that hates smaller conferences and therefore shows them little respect. If that weren’t true, teams like Houston this season or Boise State last year would be ranked No. 1 in the country.

Most people know how offensively gifted the Broncos are, but it’s their defense that has made this year’s squad the most dangerous team Kellen Moore has run as the quarterback.

Boise State’s defense is ranked 10th in the nation with 18.3 points per game allowed. Couple that with the seventh ranked offense and you have the statistically superior team with one loss.

America should want to see Kellen Moore pick apart the secondary of the Tigers in front of the National audience. That’s the kind of underdog story people would love.

The people that make the calls will make more money on an Alabama vs. LSU rematch than they ever would with Boise State as a participant, and that’s the bottom line.

Boise State isn’t allowed to play LSU for one major reason: The BCS doesn’t want the Broncos to beat the Tigers and embarrass the college football hierarchy.

If LSU played Boise State in the BCS National title game, it would be the Broncos that walked away victorious.

LSU’s offense is mediocre at best; certainly not good enough to beat what could be the best defense the Broncos have had in their four-year run with Kellen Moore.

The battle would be between the offense for Boise State and the defense of LSU. Just like the spread offense has been hurting defenses in the NFL in Green Bay, Boise State would pick apart a defense whose ego hasn’t been tested.

Alabama was a test for LSU’s defense stopping the running of Trent Richardson, but that’s all Alabama has. Stick eight in the box and that offense is terrible.

The better game is Boise State vs. LSU. Whether people admit it or not, we all know it’s more intriguing than the defensive rematch that’s inevitable.
