BCS Rankings: LSU Would Beat Either Alabama or Oklahoma State in BCS Title Game
All the BCS talk right now is between Alabama and Oklahoma State and who should play LSU in the BCS title game in January, but it really doesn't matter because the Tigers will beat either of them en route to a perfect season.
The Tigers are one of the best teams of the last decade and are a force that won't be stopped by any opponent in the national championship game.
LSU's defense is insanely good, and even against a top team scoring team like Oklahoma State, the Tigers would still dominate.
Let's look at why LSU would beat either the Crimson Tide or Cowboys in the BCS title.
1. Alabama
The Tigers beat the Crimson Tide on the road on November 5, and even though they escaped with a 9-6 victory in overtime, they could have played a lot better.
LSU gained just 239 total yards against Alabama, with just 91 yards through the air. They clearly did not play their best game offensively, yet they still won because of their defense.
The Tigers were also just 3-for-11 on third down in that game. LSU has gotten better since that game and are a more polished team.
Since beating their SEC West rivals, they haven't scored less than 40 points in a game and have beaten quality opponents such as Arkansas and Georgia.
LSU beat Alabama and held them in check over four quarters and overtime without even playing their best game.
In a rematch, the Tigers would play much better offensively and win again.
2. Oklahoma State
The Tigers allow the second fewest points per game in the nation, and a matchup with Oklahoma State would not be a hard one for LSU to win.
The Cowboys passing game is their strength on offense, and they are second in the nation with 386.3 passing yards per game.
The Tigers do a great job of stopping the pass. They are tied for third in the nation with 37 sacks and are tied for fifth with 18 interceptions.
LSU's offense would also dominate the Cowboys, whose 25.8 points allowed per game ranks 61st in the country.
Oklahoma State gave up at least 24 points to Tulsa, Kansas, Iowa State and Missouri. All four of those teams are bad or average at best.
The Cowboys are a great matchup on both sides of the ball for the Tigers, and they would certainly rather play them then face a rematch with Alabama.
