BCS Bowl Games 2012: Wisconsin and Teams That Will Be Exposed

Justin WeltonDec 4, 2011

At last, we have reached the final BCS Rankings before bowl season. There are plenty of circumstances still to be determined, but we have an idea of which teams will play where. Here are some teams that will get exposed when the BCS Bowl madness begins.

Wisconsin

Wisconsin is a fabulous Big Ten team with talent across the board. However, they gave up 39 points to the Michigan State Spartans. Not only did they give up nearly 40 points in that game, but they also gave up 37 in their previous matchup.

The Badgers allowed the Spartans to rush for 190 yards and two touchdowns on Saturday night. Le’Veon Bell averaged six yards per carry en route to 106 yards rushing.

No disrespect to the Spartans, but Oregon’s speed and rushing attack is head-and-shoulders above Michigan State's. Oregon has the fifth-best rushing attack the league, clicking at 296 yards per game.

The Ducks were the only team to put up more than 25 points on LSU’s defense. They scored at a 46 points per game clip during the season—they’re the real deal.

Oregon will be too quick and too fast for Wisconsin. Russell Wilson and Montee Ball will be able to put on a show offensively, but the Oregon offense will expose the Badgers defense on the ground.

Oregon wins 41-38.

Kansas State

Kansas State might land a berth in a BCS Bowl game because of their ranking. They are a solid club this season, but they aren’t BCS-worthy.

I’m not sure who will play in the Sugar Bowl because it could be a number of teams, but the Wildcats would likely fall to any team they play in a BCS bowl game. They would match up well against certain teams, but for the most part, the Wildcats would be defeated in a BCS Bowl game.

Their two losses have come against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma, so they don’t have a truly bad loss on their record. However, their victories have come by the slightest of margins. Kansas State defeated Eastern Kentucky by three, Miami (FL) by four, Missouri by seven, Texas A&M by three, Texas by four and Iowa State by seven.

Kansas State’s defense is No. 71 in the country in points allowed. In both of their losses, they allowed 58 and 52 points, respectively.

The score will all depend on who they play, but Kansas State is slightly overrated.

West Virginia

West Virginia plays in the worst BCS Conference in college football, the Big East. The conference has been embarrassing, to say the least.

If they have a better BCS ranking than Cincinnati, then West Virginia will probably be playing Clemson in the Orange Bowl.

Even if Clemson has struggled down the stretch in 2011, their offense is capable of putting up a boatload of points. West Virginia is capable of allowing a boatload of points. They are 63rd in college football in terms of points allowed.

Advantage Clemson.

The Mountaineers allowed 49 points to 5-7 Syracuse. They also allowed 47 points to LSU and 38 to Louisville.

Clemson has one of the best quarterback-wide receiver combinations in the country with Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins.  Boyd has passed for 31 touchdowns and Watkins has been on the receiving end of 11.

The Tigers offense will prove to be too much in 38-27 victory.
