BCS Bowl Predictions: Why Alabama Deserves Title Game Bid over Oklahoma State
After No. 3 Oklahoma State thumped No. 10 Oklahoma on Saturday, there's going to be a lot of debate about whether Oklahoma State deserves to leap No. 2 Alabama in the BCS rankings.
Despite a stellar season, the Cowboys don't deserve the No. 2 spot more than the Crimson Tide.
Oklahoma State has victories over then-No. 8 Texas A&M, then-No. 22 Texas, then-No. 14 Kansas State and now Oklahoma after the 44-10 victory on Saturday night.
Alabama has defeated four ranked teams this season, including Penn State, Arkansas, Florida and Auburn.
By the criteria alone, Oklahoma State should secure the No. 2 spot.
But the difference is, Oklahoma State lost to unranked Iowa State while Alabama lost to No. 1 LSU by three points.
With both teams having one loss, Oklahoma State's loss to an unranked team kills it in the end.
On top of this, I believe LSU and Alabama are truly the two top teams in the country this season, bolstered by amazing defenses that would give even Oklahoma State trouble.
A lot of people were turned off by their first matchup this season, which ended in LSU's favor, 9-6.
But it's not fair to give a title game bid to Oklahoma State based on entertainment value; a bid should go to the best team, and that's Alabama.
Plus, I don't believe it's going to be as low-scoring as before. Both of these teams have developed since, and there's even more potential for defensive touchdowns at this point.
It would have been fun to see Oklahoma State's offense against LSU, but the Cowboys' loss against Iowa State cannot be forgotten, and it would be shocking if the Cowboys jumped Alabama in the final BCS rankings.
