BCS Rankings: 3 Teams That Benefit Most from Houston's Loss

Austin GreenDec 3, 2011

The Houston Cougars choked away their BCS hopes on Saturday, opening the door for several teams to sneak into college football's most prestigious bowl games.

With their one loss and weak schedule, there is no way the Cougars will be attending the BCS party this season.

The following teams benefit most from Houston's collapse.

No. 7 Boise State Broncos

Kellen Moore and Co. are the main benefactors from Houston's loss.

Voters likely would have been reluctant to award two non-power conference teams with BCS bids, but the Cougars' loss clears the way for BSU.

The 11-1 Broncos didn't win their conference, but their only defeat was a one point loss to No. 18 TCU.

They have one of the best offenses in the nation, as they average 43.1 points per game.

A lot of people hate Boise State and their weak schedule, but there's no denying that they can keep pace with the best offenses in college football.

Don't be surprised to see a shootout between the Broncos and either Stanford or Oklahoma State in one of the BCS bowls.

No. 11 Kansas State Wildcats

Thanks to Houston's loss, Kansas State is in prime position to snatch an at-large BCS bid.

The Wildcats are 10-2 and both losses came against top ten opponents (Oklahoma, Oklahoma State).

Junior quarterback Collin Klein has been a beast this season. The dual-threat QB has thrown for 12 touchdowns and ran for a ridiculous 26 more. He's one rushing touchdown away from tying the single-season record for quarterbacks.

Look for Klein and the Wildcats to face Clemson in the Orange Bowl.

No. 5 Virginia Tech Hokies

The Hokies, despite trailing Clemson 31-10 as I'm writing this, are also in prime BCS position with Houston's loss.

Barring a miraculous comeback, they will fall to 10-2. Despite their two losses, the BCS will still come calling for VT.

Frank Beamer's crew would be undefeated if Clemson wasn't on the schedule. Their only other loss this year was to Tajh Boyd and the Tigers back on Oct. 1st.

There's a few two-loss teams vying for an at-large BCS bid, but I think Virginia Tech will be rewarded since both of their losses came against the same opponent.

I'm expecting the Hokies to play West Virginia in the Sugar Bowl.
