Georgia vs. LSU: 5 Key Stats for the First Half
The Tigers are in the battle of their lives for the SEC Championships. These five statistics explain why.
2: Number of Completions for Jordan Jefferson
This is only Jefferson’s second start of the year. He is not completely comfortable yet, and has the added pressure of Jarrett Lee waiting in the wings. If Josh Jenkins and Co. can keep knocking Jefferson they will be able to eliminate the Tigers’ passing game.
9:57: Time of Possession
At least the offense will be rested. LSU has one of the best defenses in the country, but that doesn’t mean they are immune to exhaustion. The offense is going to need to do something to give the D a breather.
2/1: Number of Touches/Touchdowns for Tyrann Mathieu
If that punt return doesn’t earn him a trip to New York I don’t know what will. The Honey Badger singlehandedly got the Tigers back into the game. I’m no mathematician, but Les has got to figure out a way to get him the ball a few more times.
54.2: Yards Per Punt for Brad Wing
While the offense has struggled mightily in the first half Brad Wing has done his best to keep the Tigers in the game.
0: Number of First Downs for LSU
It is going to be really difficult for Mathieu to win this game singlehandedly. Les needs to reach into his bag of tricks and figure out a way spark the sputtering offense. They have had some success running to the edges away from UGA’s ferocious front four. Look for more option runs in the second half.
A lot: Number of Busted Coverages
Georgia should have 11 more points on the board, but thanks to two dropped touchdown passes. The Tigers have kept this close. The secondary cleaned things up a bit in the second quarter and will have to keep things tight in the second half if they want to escape Atlanta with a unblemished record.
