Texas vs. Baylor: 5 Key Stats from the First Half
Today, the No. 17 Baylor Bears take on No. 21 Texas Longhorns at Floyd Casey Stadium. After a monstrous offensive performance against Texas Tech, Baylor is looking to slow down the Longhorns and cement Robert Griffin's Heisman campaign.
We should be in for a great finish, but let's take a look at five key stats from the first half.
59: Yards on RG3's first touchdown pass of the day to WR Kendall Wright.
The Bears have seen a lot success looking deep and attacking the Longhorn secondary in the first half. Baylor should keep their foot on the gas and continue to let their star QB unload to Wright.
8:58: The total time of possession for the Bears.
Despite Texas holding the ball for over 13 minutes, Baylor was able to use their quick-strike offense to get into the end zone twice in under two minutes in the first quarter.
Although the Bears do thrive off of a high-tempo offense, they must step up on defense and limit Texas' long drives in the second half. Don't expect the lead to last long if this pattern continues.
232: Yards by Texas QB Case McCoy.
What's truly disturbing about this stat is that before this game the Longhorn QB's season high in yards was a mere 168.
Baylor's secondary is making Case look more like Colt. They MUST lock down Texas WRs in the second half and limit anymore big plays.
8-11: Texas' third down efficiency in first half.
The Bears have performed terrible third down defense throughout this game. Prior to today, the Longhorns were considered one of the worst third down teams in the Big 12.
In the second half, Baylor needs to force the Longhorns into longer third downs and force some punts.
1: The number of interceptions RG3 has thrown at home.
Late in the second quarter, Griffin threw his first INT at home this season. RG3 has not had his best game today, but Baylor still holds a slight lead.
Expect the Heisman hopeful to come out hot in the second half and cement his Heisman legacy.
