2011 Bowl Games: 5 Non-BCS Bowl Games That'll Pack the House

Chris HumphreyDec 3, 2011

With the college football regular season coming to a close and bowl season getting ready to begin this month, there will be games early in the postseason that will rival the big-money BCS games that come after the New Year.

During bowl season, there are some bowl games that looked like not even the fans of the teams wanted to come see their football team compete, but you will see a show of force from the teams involved in these five bowl games.

Champ Sports Bowl

1 of 5

The projected matchup of Notre Dame and Clemson will set up for a good offensive showcase on Dec. 29 that could be lighting up the scoreboard in the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.

The Tigers and Fighting Irish both were in the top 35 in total offense this season as both racked up more than 420 yards a game. However, both teams went in different at midseason with the Irish reeling off wins and Clemson falling in three of their last four games.

AT&T Cotton Bowl

2 of 5

Just like the Clemson/Notre Dame game mentioned in the last slide, the pairing of Kansas State and Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas is sure to see some big offensive plays with the two high-powered offenses of the Wildcats and Razorbacks.

Even if the people don’t enjoy the game, they might just want to come see the massive stadium that Dallas owner Jerry Jones built in Arlington for his Cowboys and take in the gigantic Jumbotron hanging over the center of the field.

Capital One Bowl

3 of 5

In a meeting of two teams whose fans are sure to make the trip to Tampa, Nebraska and Georgia will meet for the first time since their Sun Bowl meeting, when the Cornhuskers laid it on the Bulldogs in a 45-6 loss in El Paso in 1969.

Chick-fil-A Bowl

4 of 5

In another game where the fans will not have very far to travel, the Florida State Seminoles and the Auburn Tigers will meet for the first time since 1990 as Jimbo Fisher returns to the site of his first bowl win as FSU head coach last year.

At one point in the craziness of conference realignment, the Tigers and Seminoles could have been division rivals in an expanded Southeastern Conference if Florida State had been able to escape from the ACC.

Bridgeport Education Holiday Bowl

5 of 5

While the name of the bowl got just a little longer than in the past, the history of great games in the Holiday Bowl will likely continue this year with Baylor and California in San Diego.

Even though people would likely just want to come see the walking highlight reel, Robert Griffin III, the two offenses of the Bears and Golden Bears have averaged at least 400 yard or more this season, so we might be looking at a shootout for the Dec. 28 game.
