BCS Bowl Predictions: Oregon Will Finally Break BCS Drought with Rose Bowl Win
The time has come for Oregon to break through and win a BCS bowl. After the 2001 season, the Ducks won the Fiesta Bowl, but since then, they are 2-6 in bowl games. Chip Kelly is responsible for two of those losses, both of which came in BCS games.
That's a drought that's about to break.
I'll go on record now as saying that I believe Wisconsin will beat Michigan State when the two teams square off in the Big Ten Championship game, but it doesn't matter—the Ducks are better than the Badgers and Spartans.
I'll admit that I am a little concerned about one thing: Oregon allowed 31 points to a lowly UCLA team in the Pac-12 Championship game. Surely, a better offense will do better than that.
Yes, a better offense will do better than that, but, no, it will not make any difference. It may be closer than 49-31, but Oregon will still win the game.
While both of those teams have strong offenses, neither have the speed on defense necessary to beat Oregon. That's not the case with LSU or USC, the two teams to beat Oregon this season.
That's a real problem. Actually, it makes Oregon's defensive efforts irrelevant. Unless Oregon is playing a team with a good, fast defense, they will outscore anyone.
While they're certainly good teams, neither Wisconsin or Michigan State have the kind of defense that the 2009 Ohio State or 2010 Auburn teams had.
As a result, Oregon's offensive punch will overwhelm them.
The Big Ten is not a particularly strong conference this year. It has a few good teams in it, but nothing more than that. They're not top heavy, which doesn't bode well for their hopes in a BCS Bowl.
Oregon has too much speed. It's not just one player that needs to be kept in check—the Ducks have a lot of speed all throughout their offense.
The Spartan defense won't be able to match them, and in the end, it won't be that close.
