Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State: Best Case/Worst Case Bowl Scenario for Both Teams
With mainly only conference championships remaining for most teams, we all have a pretty good idea of where each team will end up as far as bowls are concerned. But if we know anything about college football, it's that anything can happen. Expect the expected to happen, but always prepare for craziest scenario you can think of.
It is college football after all.
The Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys will battle it out this weekend for the Big 12 crown. These two teams have been at the top of the BCS Rankings all year and it's expected to be a great game with a ton of scoring.
Here are the best and worst case bowl scenarios for both teams.
Oklahoma State Cowboys
Best: The best case scenario for the Cowboys would be the national championship game. Sure, they have one loss but so do the Alabama Crimson Tide who are ranked slightly above them. Oklahoma State has been a team that's played fantastic football all season long and has one of the best offenses in the country. Many believe that if they really lay it on the Sooners this weekend it could impress the voters enough to move them up the rankings. It will really take a lopsided victory for that to happen but anything is possible.
Worst: BCS Sugar Bowl. This would only happen if the Cowboys end up losing the Sooners. I really don't see any team jumping a two loss Cowboys team for an at-large bid. This team will bring in huge ratings because of their explosive offense that is capable of putting up 50 in any given game. They've been very impressive all season long and a loss to a quality opponent like Oklahoma shouldn't hurt their BCS hopes.
Oklahoma Sooners
Best: BCS Fiesta Bowl. It's really simple for the Sooners, if they win they're in the BCS Fiesta Bowl as Big 12 champions. Although this may not be the bowl they would like they really can't complain since they lost to Texas Tech and Baylor this season. The Sooners had national championship on their mind but a BCS bowl against a team like Stanford really isn't a bad second option. They have to take care of business on Saturday though.
Worst: This would make the Sooners one of the biggest disappointments in this year's college football season. A loss to the Cowboys would likely put Oklahoma in the Valero Alamo Bowl. This would be an embarrassment as they started the season as national championship contenders and have been ranked No.1 for majority of the season. Anything less than a BCS bowl would mark this season as a failure.
