2011 Bowl Projections: Stanford and More Dominant Teams That Will Not Falter
Conference championship week has arrived, which means bowl season is right around the corner. The matchups will be announced this Sunday, and those teams that have been cruising all year long will continue to do just that.
It's been a crazy year in college football, and evidence of that is the fact there might be a rematch between LSU and Alabama for the BCS National Title. It's a huge debate as to who should play for the title, and no matter who plays, there will be unhappy fans.
College football needs a playoff, but until then, we're left with bowl games. Not that there's anything wrong with them though, because it gives fans a chance to see the great teams in action once again.
With that said, here are three teams that will dominate during bowl season.
Stanford Cardinal
In what is likely to be Andrew Luck's final college game, Stanford will not falter in whatever BCS bowl selects them. Currently ranked No. 4 in the nation, the Cardinal could play in any BCS bowl except the Rose Bowl.
Luck didn't disappoint in last year's blowout over Virginia Tech, and he'll continue to shine against whatever team he plays. If Alabama and LSU play for the title, it would be great to see Stanford take on Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl.
Instead, the Cardinal could end up playing against Houston, which would still be intriguing, but most likely another blowout.
No matter who Stanford plays though, Luck and company will be ready, and they're not walking away without a victory.
Baylor Bears
Robert Griffin III may very well win the Heisman Trophy this year, but even if he doesn't, he's still going to crush whatever team he plays in a bowl game. With the second best offense in the country, the Bears will stick it to whoever they play in the bowl game.
Baylor is most likely headed to either the Insight Bowl or the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl. The Bears would play against the Big Ten in the former, and the Pac-12 in the latter. So we could see a Baylor vs. Iowa matchup or Baylor vs. California.
Either way, RGIII will not be denied a bowl win during his senior season. His dual threat skills are exceptional, and his ability to deliver in the clutch is what makes the Bears so dangerous in the postseason.
Arkansas Razorbacks
Bobby Petrino's squad has had one heck of a year, but they failed to beat LSU and Alabama, which is why they'll be missing out on a BCS Bowl.
The Razorbacks are likely headed to the Cotton Bowl in a battle against the Big 12, and they will win that game. They can score at will, and as Atlanta radio host John Kincade points out, as long as they're not playing the top teams in the SEC West, the Razorbacks are going to put points on the board.
Tyler Wilson has done a great job replacing Ryan Mallett, and he'll continue to play at a high level wherever they go bowling. Arkansas has a bright future, and the Razorbacks will have a great boost of confidence moving forward after the annihilate whoever they play in the bowl game.
