Cotto vs Margarito 2: Why We're Guaranteed to See an Early Knockout
Antonio Margarito and Miguel Angel Cotto don't seem to like each other very much. Something about these two just seems to give us a genuine dislike, which makes things fun.
It might have something to do with the fact that Margarito handed Cotto his first loss. Furthermore, it probably has something to do with Cotto's suspicion of wrongdoing in the part of that fight. It was detailed by Michael J. Fensom of the Newark Star-Ledger:
"Cotto has accused Margarito of illegally reinforcing his hand wraps, although complaints from Cotto didn't surface until months after the fight. Despite Arum and Margarito proclaiming no premeditated wrongdoing, Cotto labeled Margarito a criminal and his relationship with the promoter has soured."
Of course, that suspicion isn't exactly baseless. Wraps were found on Margarito's hands when he fought Shane Mosley. Ironically enough, Margarito lost that fight anyway.
But if you need to know how these two feel about each other, here is what Fensom quoted these two as saying:
Margarito:"There's a lot of anger, there's a lot of hatred between both of us. Someone will be getting hurt in this fight. Both of us are going up to hurt each other."
Margarito:"He can hit my eye as many times as he wants. He hits like a little girl. A super flyweight hits harder. He wants to take it personal. I'll take it very personal, too. Do whatever you want. He's not going to beat me at all. Never. Never."
Cotto:"You are an embarrassment to boxing. You'll see what a 'little girl' will do to you."
All of this is just a fancy way of saying that these two really don't like each other. Neither are doing an awful lot to hide it.
It's hard to believe that they won't be looking to end this fight early. Cotto will be out to prove that what happened in the first fight wasn't clean. Margarito will be out to prove that he's not a cheater, or an "embarrassment," as Cotto called him.
The way to do that isn't to come out and fight defensively to win on points.
No, these two will be coming out swinging, looking to knock the other out. As a result, we'll either see one of those punches land, or one of the two men will end up in a vulnerable spot and get knocked out on his own.
This one will be action packed, but it won't be very long.
Prediction: Cotto by knockout, fifth round.
