BCS Bowl Predictions: Updated Bowl Projections for the Five BCS Bowls

Randy ChambersDec 3, 2011

The college football regular season is almost over, so, it's time to look ahead to the bowl season. This time of year is when the games get really good as the cupcakes go back to the drawing board and the the legit teams come out to play one last time.

Although there is still a lot of football to be played, we have a good idea of where each team will end up in the BCS Bowls.

Here are the updated predictions for all five of the BCS Bowl games.

Rose Bowl: Oregon Ducks vs. Wisconsin Badgers

1 of 5

How I got this matchup: This bowl hosts the No. 1 teams from both the Pac-12 and the Big Ten. The Ducks make it with a victory over UCLA and the Badgers make it with a victory over Michigan State. Although the Spartans have a great defense, they don't have the offense to keep up with Wisconsin.

If this matchup does in fact happen, I hope you enjoy offense. There will be a lot of it. Both teams run the ball extremely well and have explosive players that can take it the distance every time the ball is in their hands.

Fiesta Bowl: Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Stanford Cardinal

2 of 5

How I got this matchup: The loser of the Oklahoma/Oklahoma State game will end up in this spot. The Cowboys still have a shot at the national championship but will have to absolutely cream the Sooners. Stanford will still make a BCS bowl game by finishing 11-1 despite losing to the Oregon Ducks.

The Sooners are capable of matching the Cowboys points but they also have a better defense that will make it difficult for Oklahoma State.

If this game does happen, it would be another high-scoring affair. There is a lot of NFL potential on both teams and it would be a must-watch because it'll probably be Andrew Luck's last game in a Stanford uniform.

Sugar Bowl: Michigan Wolverines vs. Houston Cougars

3 of 5

How I got this matchup: Houston will fall into this spot if they beat Southern Miss and win the C-USA. Michigan will receive an at-large bid because they are too good to pass up, have a great tradition and a star player in quarterback Denard Robinson.

This would be a very interesting game as we all love to watch No.16 play. But I am more interested in watching Houston and seeing if they're as good as advertised. I know they score a ton of points and Case Keenum has been one of the best quarterbacks over the last five seasons. But I want to see them against a BCS team.

Hopefully this isn't a repeat of the 2007 Sugar Bowl.

Orange Bowl: Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia

4 of 5

How I got this matchup: Virginia Tech looks like the better team right now than the struggling Clemson team. They'll likely win the ACC. West Virginia only needs Cincinnati to beat Connecticut and they'll win the Big East and earn this spot.

This game has the potential to be a lot better than some of the other matchup possibilities. Watching David Wilson, Geno Smith and Tavon Austin go at it will be very fun. This game could be very flashy and high scoring.

National Championship: Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers

5 of 5

How I got this matchup: LSU will likely reach this regardless of what happens in the SEC Championship because their resume is that impressive. Alabama is safe because they only lost one game and that loss is a lot more impressive than Oklahoma State's loss.

Whether you like these two teams playing again or not, you can't deny that they are the top two teams in the country. They both run the ball extremely well and have the top two defenses in the country. Every other team you try to make an argument for has lost to a lesser team.

LSU has zero losses and Alabama only lost to the Tigers in overtime by a field goal. You can say Alabama is overrated because of that but somebody had to lose. If the Tigers were to lose, would you label them overrated as well?
