Chris Petersen Will Not Be Leaving Boise State for UCLA, Sources Say
In an article released early Friday morning, Joe Schad of ESPN.com is reporting that Chris Petersen will not be a candidate for the head coaching job at UCLA.
According to the article, "UCLA inquired about Boise State coach Chris Petersen, but the school has been told he will not be a candidate, a source told ESPN.com's Joe Schad."
This will be welcomed news for Boise State fans, who have been doing the yearly sweating-it-out ceremony that goes on at the end of every season.
In a related matter, Boise State University President Bob Kustra sprang to action this week and announced Thursday the hiring of a brand new athletic director for Boise State.
Mark Coyle, who is currently employed by the University of Kentucky, will bring his expertise in fund raising, compliance and overall day-to-day operations of an major athletic department to Boise State.
As athletic director, Coyle made it known his first task was to make sure head coach Chris Petersen will not be leaving any time soon. Per ESPN, "My No. 1 goal is to keep Chris Petersen at Boise State University. He's raised the bar. How do we help him move the needle and take it to the next level?"
Again, this has to be a great sound to Bronco fans.
In another article on ESPN.com, the goals and challenges ahead for Coyle are laid out:
"Coyle faces a series of challenges in his new job besides keeping Petersen, with a 71-6 record, from jumping ship for bigger schools and more lucrative wages. Boise State is in the process of raising $100 million for ambitious plans to boost its stadium from 34,000 to 54,000 seats and the school is now focused on keeping its nose clean with sports' governing body.
"
With his vast amount of experience and areas of expertise, Coyle seems uniquely qualified to help take Boise State to a new level, even far above what has been achieved so far.
It is an exciting time in Bronco Nation!
