10 UFC Fighters Who Need to Check Themselves Before They Wreck Themselves

G DNov 30, 2011

Most of us have heard the famous saying, "Check yourself before you wreck yourself."

If you haven't, simply follow along, as you'll catch on quickly.

This term is used in reference to individuals who are outspoken, often engage in self-praise or in reality sometimes aren't that great at all.

These individuals are in nearly every worldwide sport, as well as mixed martial arts.

Specifically in the UFC, there are several fighters who fall under this category.

The following slides display 10 fighters who need to check themselves before they wreck themselves.

Let's take a look.

Chael Sonnen

1 of 10

For many, Chael Sonnen ranks near the top of this list for fighters who need to check themselves before they wreck themselves.

Sonnen hit the scene following his loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 117.

While Sonnen may have dominated his opponent for four-and-a-half rounds, he still failed to be declared victorious when all was said and done.

Since his defeat, Sonnen has been speaking his mind about anything and everything.

Sonnen needs to remember he came up short to Silva and still must get by Mark Munoz in order to receive another middleweight title shot.

Tito Ortiz

2 of 10

Since the first time Tito Ortiz entered the Octagon, he's been considered one of the most outspoken men in any sport.

While Ortiz was considered one of the greatest of all time at one point in his career, his days have come to pass.

Despite thinking he may have something left in the tank, Ortiz has won just one of his last seven bouts.

Dan Hardy

3 of 10

Dan Hardy is another example of a fighter who needs to check himself before he wrecks himself.

After winning seven consecutive fights, Hardy found himself standing across the Octagon from welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

Not only would Hardy fall to defeat, but it would be the first of four consecutive losses.

Before "The Outlaw" continues to speak his mind, he better get his career back on track.

Rashad Evans

4 of 10

While at times Rashad Evans may be considered one of the most respected men in mixed martial arts, it's certainly not all of the time.

For show or not, Evans has entered the Octagon more than once to confront the current UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones.

Even with only one loss in his career, "Suga" better check himself before he calls out the youngest champion in UFC history again.

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

5 of 10

Despite recently receiving a title shot against Jon Jones at UFC 135, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson fell short, and it's unlikely he'll receive a title shot for a quite a while.

With that being said, Jackson is no longer the fighter he once was, as he hasn't knocked an opponent out since his bout with Wanderlei Silva at UFC 92.

Jackson is still full of self-praise and needs to check himself.

Melvin Guillard

6 of 10

Everything was smooth sailin' for Melvin Guillard, as he had won five consecutive bouts and was likely just a fight or two away from a lightweight title shot.

As expected, Guillard got back to his usual ways, as he began taunting Joe Lauzon in their highly anticipated bout at UFC 136.

However, it didn't take long for Lauzon to put Guillard in his place, as he submitted him within the first minute of Round 1.

Michael Bisping

7 of 10

Michael Bisping is considered by many UFC fans the cockiest fighter ever to have stepped foot inside the Octagon.

Over his career, Bisping has done his fair share of speaking out, calling out a variety of fellow fighters.

Recently, Bisping's been cited for calling out his upcoming opponent, Jason "Mayhem" Miller, via Twitter.

Bisping better check himself before he wrecks himself.

Jason "Mayhem" Miller

8 of 10

It'd only be fair for Jason "Mayhem" Miller to be a part of this list, as he's done just as much talking as his opponent Michael Bisping has done.

While Miller is certainly liked by more fans, he's gone a little too far on several occasions.

Recent remarks by Miller include:

"I'm going to beat his a--. It's not hard to pick on Michael. Everyone hates that guy. Since Osama bin Laden's been dead, he's enemy No. 1 in America."

With all his trash talk, Miller better evaluate everything heading into The Ultimate Fighter season finale on Dec. 3, 2011.

Alistair Overeem

9 of 10

Despite having never stepped foot inside the Octagon, Alistair Overeem remains one of the most popular fighters in the world.

While Overeem may be one of the most dangerous strikers in the UFC, he's yet to prove this at the highest level of mixed martial arts.

Still, Overeem has stated he will knock out his opponent Brock Lesnar in the very first round at UFC 141.

Overeem better check himself heading into his bout on Dec. 30, 2011.

Nick Diaz

10 of 10

At times, Nick Diaz is misunderstood, as he does a lot of his "talking" for media purposes.

However, Diaz has crossed the line on several occasions throughout his drama-filled mixed martial arts career.

While Diaz may have defeated one of the greatest of all time in BJ Penn, it doesn't mean he's capable of wearing UFC gold in the welterweight division.

Diaz better check himself before he wrecks himself against Georges St-Pierre.
