Oklahoma State Football: 5 Bold Bedlam Predictions
Championship week is here, and Bedlam will serve as the de facto championship for the 10-headed Big 12. The matchup between Oklahoma State and Oklahoma has lost some luster due to losses by both squads earlier in the year. However, there is still a Big 12 title on the line for whoever can win what will be a crazy game.
The weather looks to be terrible, the Sooners have tons of injuries and the Cowboys haven't beaten the Sooners in a decade. Everything is shaping up for this to be one of the best games of the year.
Here are five bold predictions about this year's version of Bedlam.
Landry Jones Will Throw Multiple Interceptions
1 of 5Landry Jones has shown that he will throw bad balls in high pressure situations thus far this season. He has thrown two picks in four games this year and has had just three games where he did not throw any.
The Cowboy defense is an opportunistic group that will capitalize on any mistake by the Sooner quarterback. Oklahoma State is second in the nation in turnover margin and has forced 21 interceptions so far this season.
An interesting point to note, however, is that the four games in which Jones has thrown multiple interceptions have all been wins.
10 Different OSU Receivers Will Make Catches
2 of 5One thing that Brandon Weeden has gotten better at this year is spreading the ball around. If you don't believe me, just look at Justin Blackmon's stats.
The star wideout's production is still pretty far away from last year's totals, short by around 500 yards and five touchdowns. Teams are keying on Blackmon, and that has just made the receiving corps around him even better.
Guys like Josh Cooper, Tracy Moore, Isaiah Anderson, Michael Harrison, Josh Stewart, Joseph Randle and Colton Chelf will all be ready to make the Sooners pay if they devote too much attention to Blackmon. The Sooners have to give Blackmon that defensive attention, so expect big, widespread production all across that receiving corps.
Roy Finch Will Run for over 100 Yards
3 of 5Before anyone comments below and says that this prediction doesn't seem that bold, let me lay some stats on you. Roy Finch has been getting carries all season, especially after Dominque Whaley went down with an injury.
Still, though, Finch has not broken the 100-yard mark in a game this season. He has gotten very close, with games of 99 and 95 yards. This will be the game he finally pushes over the edge.
The weather will be cold and rainy, unfavorable to the passing game. Oklahoma State struggles to stop the run. It is a perfect combination for Finch to make this game his best of the season.
The Belldozer Will Score All of Oklahoma's Touchdowns
4 of 5When you first start to look at Sooner backup quarterback Blake Bell's stats, you won't be impressed. He's gone 1-for-4 for eight yards, an interception and a quarterback rating of -8.2. He's run the ball 33 times for just 92 yards, averaging 2.8 yards per carry.
None of those stats really put the fear into an opposing defense. Then comes the one stat that will. He's scored nine rushing touchdowns in four games. The goal line set that the Sooners use him in is nearly impossible.
Iowa State was able to stop it a bit, but never completely. Oklahoma State is second in the Big 12 in red zone defense, but it won't matter. They will have a very tough time stopping the "Belldozer."
Quinn Sharp Will Hit the Game-Winning Field Goal
5 of 5Quinn Sharp is the Cowboy punter and kicker and is among the best at both in the nation. He's made 69 of 70 extra points this season and 17 of 20 field goals. He also leads the Big 12 in yards per punt, averaging 47.6 yards. He would rank first in the nation in that stat if he'd punted enough times this season.
Sharp is also the guy who missed the field goal that probably would have won the Iowa State game in regulation for the Cowboys. That won't happen again.
Special teams is the biggest advantage the Cowboys have against the Sooners, and Quinn Sharp is a big part of that. He'll make the winning field goal and redeem himself from his miss at Iowa State.
